Little bit of both January 31, 2008 G. D. Soll (Washington, DC) I have to agree that a)this is an essential for the homebrewer who wants to learn more and b)that it could be better. I love homebrewing and for me being able to read little tips here and there both improves what I do, and also keeps my ego in check and reminds me NOT to take out the loan on the brewery just yet. Zymurgy is good to answer questions and generally keep a pulse on the hobby. That being said, it can be sometimes repetitive (and they even seem to repeat themselves sometimes!) but usually the letters and other completely novel things will counteract the repetitious ideas. All of that being said, I completely agree that subscribing to this magainze in any way other than joining AHA is silly.
Homebrew necessity February 17, 2007 Philip Storvik (Murfreesboro, TN) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My only real complaint is they're not monthly issues. Zymurgy is very informative and relevant for every homebrewer whether you brew solo like me or in clubs and like to compete. Highly recommended.
Join the AHA and get the magazine for free February 16, 2005 M. Ambrose (S. Fla.) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
For the $38 membership, you get the magazine for free when you join the AHA ; www.beertown.org. The magazine is great if you are past the beginner stage of beermaking. It can be a bit on the technical side, but if you love making beer, then it's great information.
Overpriced December 23, 2003 17 out of 29 found this review helpful
While this magazine provides useful information to the homebrewer, it is increadibly overpriced. Especially when you consider that for the cost of 2-3 issues you could buy a full book such as the Joy of Homebrewing, Clonebrews or Designing Great Beers. It's unfortunate that the American Homebrewers Association essentially uses the procedes from this magazine to fund extravagant trips for the staff to the many homebrew competitions and conventions held each year. Sounds like a pretty nice life...write a few articles a year and get to travel for free to cool cities and drink great beer.

Information packed magazine for when you start experimenting with recipes for homemade beer. Has competition information and standings for Homebrew Clubs all over the USA. Great calendar of events! Advertising for all kinds of equipment and supplies. Hooray for July--National American Beer Month!
