Cozmo Girl, an insult November 30, 2001 38 out of 55 found this review helpful
I bought this magazine once because it had blink on it, that one was innocent enough, a few moths later, they featured Blink again, after i had finished reading the article, i decided to thumb through the rest of the magazine, i was insulted by the article, "How To Be Popular", i read it, and it was the most shallow thing i have read, inscturcting me to, "embarass yonger girls" "date a popular guy" and so on, bull, it was all bull, it was moraly degrating and self centered. I was also looking at other features, and as i looked at it, all i saw was shalow, self centered, beauty concerned topics. Sure, its a teen magazine, but what about articles that have to do with other things, i don't mind the, talking about beauty, but man, this is over the top, if you read this magazine on a monthy baisis, your mind will turn to meaningless mush, your vocab will shink and your knowledge and compassion will go right out the window. do yourself a favor, steer clear of this magazine, for your own good!
Best of the best... February 11, 2005 cassidrm 26 out of 29 found this review helpful
I think I like this teen magazine the best of all the teen magazines. It wasn't trashy and focused a lot on clothes and fashion. Which I love. It also had other things typical of teen magazines but it is a lot classier in its function. I think this magazine also delves into your inner-self and not so much about how you look (fat, skinny, curvy) but that you can look great no matter what your body shape is long as you love yourself. I think this magazine is worth subscribing to.
If I could give this mag more stars I would.... December 22, 2002 Emily (USA) 21 out of 23 found this review helpful
Out of all the teen mags I've ever read this is the best one... not only does it have the best fashion and make-up tips, it has the best guy advice you could ask for. The thing that sets it apart from all the others (parents pay attention!) is that it has a lot of feel-good features (such as interviews with inspiring women (political figures, businesswomen, etc...) career advice, school advice, and other things that will help every teenage girl feel good about herself and motivate her to become a successful adult (all without being a tad boring) The main reason I love this magazine is that it shifts away from the norm, and instead of passively following trends and enforcing its readers to do so, it encourages every reader to be an individual and helps her to find out how to do so. This is simply the best mag out there and I wish more teen mags were like it.
Not age appropiate December 2, 2003 17 out of 27 found this review helpful
I ordered a subscription for my niece as a Christmas present. I then went and purchased a magazine to give. I was appauled by the articles, pictures and topics. This magazine is not appropriate for young or teen girls. One article was "How to kiss a guy (the right way) to turn him on", half nude men as postcards to give to friends and other disturbing pictures/articles. I just cancelled my order. I do not recommend this magazine for girls under 17/18.
Good clean fun July 15, 2004 QUEEN_OF_EVERYTHING (Outside Philly) 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
COSMOGIRL, little sister of COSMOPOLITAN, is a fluffy and light read that's fun for girls who don't feel like filling their head with useful info or absorbing themselves in literature. It's mainly targeted at the 13-19 audience, though I do know of older girls, say 21 and up, reading it. All that's in here, whether it be sexual or in reference to drugs, is nothing new and needn't be deemed taboo. If girls don't find out here, they may find out else where.Griping parents, you might not like that. ;) So quit complaining about this print. Anyway, besides the millions of advertisements, COSMOGIRL is semi-insightful when it comes to real life. Editor Atoosa Rubenstein has included controversial real-life stories that happened to real girls. Yet these types of horror stories, in a sense, serve as a guidance to today's youth. I also like that this magazine doesn't really preach absistenence, although some peeved readers have encouraged it via monthly mail. They've had articles on PROTECTION. Now that's useful! The embarassing moments never really get old. Somehow, they keep on finding new, hilarious situations to publish. A more recent addition, MI VIDA LOCA, is even more enjoyable. Some of the stories are so outrageous that it makes you wonder if a reader merely conjured them up in her head... Star interviews are also a genuine treat and almost always very well done. I've enjoyed interviews from Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Kirsten Dunst, and others. Even if I don't enjoy a star's work on screen/in studio, the interviews sometimes are so insightful that I see a whole new side of them. Overall, COSMOGIRL is worthwhile, probably your best bet next to SEVENTEEN. I broke my magazine addiction a year or so ago and I don't read them as nearly as much - most of which are total garbage. COSMO ain't great lit, but it isn't trash like TWIST and TIGER BEAT, either.
