Product Description Fronted by Darius Rucker, these rootsy, blues-flavored modern rockers shot to fame 1995 with the chart-topping debut album Cracked Rear View. One of the disc's smash singles, Let Her Cry among the 17 hits and favorites featured here won that year s GRAMMY in the Best Pop Duo/Group category, and the band also won for Best New Artist. Still recording and touring, they have since sold over 25 million records, and delivered hits including Hold My Hand, Time, Only Wanna Be With You, also featured on in the set list on this essential collection, which spans 1994-2003

Eureka! an edit-free Greatest Hits! December 20, 2005 Daniel W. Kelly (Long Island, NY United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
None of the hits have been edited from their full length album versions on this compilation, and all the top 40 hits from their two big albums are accounted for. The only song that is not the same length as on the original CD is "Tucker's Town." On the album version, after the song ends, there is a pause of silence, and then this 30 second accapella part comes on. It's not particularly of any use to make the song better, and it's omitted on this disc.
Holding Hands May 4, 2004 Michael Kerner (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) 8 out of 20 found this review helpful
Sometimes, a vigorant band surprises me at first when it really hits big, and then falls flat like a baloon made of lead and a ton of bricks. That arguably happened with so many great bands of the 90's, The Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms, Pearl Jam, and even the Counting Crows. But, that all seems to have been nowhere compared to Hootie & The Blowfish. During their popularity in the mid 90's, they truly brought out the best in music for years to come. After their unreal debut, Cracked Rear View, which sold more than 16 million albums, and one of the top selling records from the 90's, they just couldn't be kept up in sales and status. As a result, they became a horrific joke. Still, the music of the group is well no joke. The Best Of Hootie & The Blowfish, is a collection of 17 songs from the groups long time with Atlantic Records. The collection includes such great feel-good songs including Hold My Hand, Let Her Cry, Old Man N' Me, Only Lonely, and I Will Wait. The downside of this record is that a huge amount of tracks, really weren't considered as actual hit songs, in a pretty even split. Although the sound is something to enjoy, there just isn't a lot here that makes it a outstanding hits collection. Outside of their latest song, The Goodbye Girl, there just isn't anything exciting out of what Hootie & The Blowfish charted from their four albums, Cracked Rear View, Fairweather Johnson, Musical Chairs, and their 2002 self-titled record. If you're a die hard Hootie & The Blowfish fan, this really is for you, or if you feel the need of the best guilty pleasure from South Carolina in the 90's, this also is for you. Otherwise, you're just better off letting go of those holding hands, Hootie & The Blowfish.
Great Collection! March 4, 2004 Jason Rector (Charleston, South Carolina United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This album is like taking a trip down memory lane. I was 10 years old when Cracked Rear View came out. They were one of the bands I really got into when I was at that age where I started to seriously get into music. With their albums apanning over practically all of my youth, I have a lot of memories associated with so many of these songs. Its great to have a lot of the really special ones all on one cd like this. I hope this album does well sell wise too. The guys deserve it. This really is a great collection of songs. For people who didn't stick with the music after Cracked Rear View or Fairweather Johnson, you will be very surprised by some of these songs and just how great they are. This is a band who continues to make great music and if you were once a fan, I highly reccomend checking out their new album, getting this one, and rediscovering a great band.

Finally Hootie and the Blowfish have released their greatest hits disk. And the track list is solid up and down, all the big hits from cracked rear view are here, also the big hits from Fairweather Johnson are represented, also i was truley impressed the gorgeous track "Innocence" off their newest studio album was included, as most of you know record companies sometimes leave off the newest material on the greatest hits packages. It is a solid compilation of HATB hits and powerful songs from the very unfortunate unpopular follow albums. perfect for the novice Hootie fan. The only reason for a 4 star rating is that I would have liked to see "Can't Find The Time To Tell You" from the Me Myself and Irene soundtrack make it to the list. But it still can earn a worthy place in your cd Collection

Unfortunately, Hootie and the Blowfish will be remembered only for a handful of hit songs back in the 90's by most of the general public. Truth be told, this has got to be one of the best bands out there today. These guys make great music, plain and simple. No gimmicks, no dance routines, no songs made to go along with a video, blah blah etc etc. What you see is what you get. This cd contains a wide range of their best stuff from all of their studio albums, and also includes a new song (Goodbye Girl) that was on a soundtrack for the movie of the same name. The material from Cracked Rear View will be very familiar, but the rest of the songs on this disc will give you an idea of the talent of this band just in case you haven't heard their more recent albums. In this day and age of "video stars" and soft drink endorsing mega-artists, it is nice to see a band that truly cares about the music. Put this one on and let it go from beginning to end.
