Album Description Amethystium is a music project aiming to create and explore emotive imaginary worlds in sound. Primarily electronic-based, the compositions traverse a span of moods that includes both light and darkness, bliss and melancholy. They range from the purely relaxing to the subtly intense, creating dreamlike and evocative musical journeys. Formed by Norwegian composer/producer Oystein Ramfjord, Amethystium started out independently with a demo release in late 1999. After quickly becoming something of an underground phenomenon through word of mouth, the project was signed to then EMI/Capitol subsidiary Neurodisc Records and released a string of three Top 10 Billboard charting albums in the US.

A terrific progression forward! July 3, 2008 Ambient Guru (Vancouver, B.C.) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Though still very much Amethystium sounding, Oystein Ramfjord has taken this album and developed his sound somewhat. The results are in many cases breathtaking with most of the album having more depth, rhythm and beat then his past offerings. He still uses voices on Isabliss largely as an additional instrument with limited lyrics, much like earlier Delerium albums did. However, many of these songs are the strongest on the album with the vocals adding a sense of air and beauty to the rich beats. Highlights for me include Treasure, Anthemoessa, Strangely Beautiful, Frosty Morning Bliss and my personal favorite track Silken Twine. If your a fan of Oystein Ramfjord previous albums and/or early Delerium (Semantic Spaces, Karma era) then you will surely enjoy Isabliss!
Drifting Blissfully In A Sonic Sea June 20, 2008 Mike Smith 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have two of Amethystium's previous releases, Aphelion and Evermind, both of which I enjoy immensely, and have come to expect good material from them. Like their others, this album is quite good. The synths wash over you and the pleasant sounding vocals take you away to a faroff place where your problems can't follow. You get the distinct sense that something mystical is going on, what exactly is open to interpretation. Oystein Ramfjord (the composer, producer, and performer of Amethystium) knows how to make a song interesting and rich without making it cluttered with ideas that miss the mark. This is mellow music that is very calming and easy to listen to, but it is by no means boring. It stimulates the emotions and can be downright uplifting at times. Consider it a tranquil tonic for today's busy stressful world.
Entrancing evolution of sonic paradise. August 21, 2008 Distant Voyageur (Io) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Nearly four years passed between Amethystium's last album "Evermind" and the release of Ramsfjord's latest release "Isabliss". Though it was certainly a while between including the release of a retrospective "Emblem", "Isabliss" is a marvelous evolution of sound from the past while maintaining much of the spirit of the old. "Isabliss" is comparison has a much more of a monochromic feel, like having a much grayer, more wintry atmosphere. Even some of the songs have a different melodic structure. The album cover artwork perfectly portrays the mood of the album in my opinion: Dark, gray, yet also entrancing and mesmerizing. Some of the songs like "Treasure", "Anthemossa", and "Silken Twine" are ideal tributes to the atmospherics of their debut album "Odonata". Other songs like "A Small Adventure", "La Pluie", and the Arctic "Frosty Morning Bliss" have a far chillier atmosphere. Even more tracks have distinctly creepy undertones such as "Silken Twine" with it's unique change in melody towards the end. Overall, "Isabliss" is a welcome and not overdue return for Amethystium. THough some may think "what took you so long?" after the long break after "Evermind", I enjoyed their first three albums and was totally content with Amethystium taking it's time and the end result is yet another fantastic addition to their musical catalog and a new chapter in their history. Highly recommended! :D
JUST OK June 18, 2008 J. Becker (New Jersey USA) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought Isabliss as soon as it was available thinking that I couldn't go wrong. The truth is it's really not that great. I purchased the "album" on iTunes and listened to the songs on the way into work. It's my LEAST favorite release of the five that are available. Maybe it'll take some time, but my recommendation is if you're not familiar with Amethystium, definitely start out with Odonata and Aphelion. They will always be works of art!
Heavenly Music! July 21, 2008 Roberta Dugan (Maryland, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This must be what music sounds like in heaven! With rich melodic lines and angelic voices, the Norwegian has created another CD that never fails to lift my spirits and of which I never grow tired. And yes...it IS just as good (or better) than his previous offerings. And although it was worth waiting for, I sincerely hope that he doesn't make his fans wait so long for the next one! BUY THIS! You won't regret it.
