2 out of 5 stars Major sound defect mars otherwise great Blu-ray concert.   March 31, 2008

Unfortunately the Blu-ray version of this concert has a 7-second long sound dropout in the TrueHD soundtrack at timecode 1:40:45 - all copies of the Blu-ray currently available are affected. The TrueHD soundtrack of the previously released HD DVD does not suffer from this dropout (nor does the Blu-ray's lower quality DD soundtrack), so it is clear this was an encoding goof-up on Warner's part.

This type of QC problem is unacceptable for a product that costs $20, yet Warner has not mentioned any intention of fixing the issue. Hopefully they get on the ball and set up a replacement program for those who buy this defective disc.

Note that the recent re-release of this disc still suffers from the dropout problem. Maybe the third time will be the charm... :\

5 out of 5 stars Very good transfer of a classic rock film. Even better sound.   March 22, 2008

I must say that if you are a Zepplin fan, you will love this movie. Is it the best live concert footage ever made? No. Is it hoaky? Yes. It was made with the intentions of giving fans a look at the band from a " backstage " point of view. It evolved into something else. A mix of live footage with a twist of.....let's just say strange. But, enjoyable to any die hard Zep fan out there.

So.....first off, the picture is very nice. It is not " reference " quality. It shows it's age. The film was never shot with the intentions of being perfect. It is concert footage. Gritty, raw, real. So, if you can keep that in mind. You will enjoy be watching this title in it's best possible presentation. The restoration of this film shows. It is clean of dirt and scratches, but the colors are not stable throughout. You will notice many changes in picture quality as concert scenes change to the movie portion. The concert scenes are clean, sharp. Colors are very nice and bright. Best I have ever seen. But, the actuall movie portion did not fare as well. The blacks do not hold up. Some are poor, some are good, some are very good. Uneven at best. But, the movie is over 30 years old. So, you must cut it some slack.

The audio was much, much better than I expected. With my home theatre system, all sound fields were covered nicely. Your subwoofer gets a very good workout also. Clean, crisp voices throughout. Nicely done I think.

So....with that said. I would say this title is worth buying for any Zep fan. Picture quality is good. Not perfect, but good. Sound is better. If you are not a Zep fan, keep an open mind. This was the mid 70's. It was a sign of the times, from a Icon band that still holds the test of time. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars The Mighty Zeppelin rules again!   April 20, 2008

Finally after many years of disappointment with this concert film, Page has set the record straight...He took over the controls and the result is a brand new Zep concert movie! The Blu Ray sound is great (MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS FILM SINCE IT WAS IN THE THEATERS) 5.1 mixed correctly. (for a change, not all the sound comes from the center channel, its mixed beautifully). There are very cool new stage edits not, for some reason, in the original cut. It was actually shot very well, just edited poorly (the original cut) Now I can safely say it is one of the best concerts film outs there! The 'fantasy' sequences are still dumb, but it was a sign of the times...You see why, if you never saw them, why they are still so popular!

I used to watch this video on VHS as a teen and the BluRay has brought me right back to those days. Such an awesome concert/back stage footage movie.. I LOVE it!!!
