Amazon.com essential recording Nakai's free improvisations on this album are based on his impressions of the Anasazi and Sinagua sites, ancient cliff dwellings that were home to communities of Native people thousands of years ago. By using the Roland SDE 3000 Digital Delay system, Nakai is able to play duets with his own echo, in an effort to emulate the echoes of the past that haunt these ruins. On this recording, Nakai's flute sounds even more plaintive than usual, as if the spirits of these forgotten ancestors had entered into the studio to fill his playing with the whispered reverberations of their ancient ways. This is one of Nakai's most deeply felt recordings, one that resonates with a deep, melancholy yearning. --j. poet

I'd forgotten how lovely it was April 24, 2001 Terry Mathews (a small town in east Texas) 36 out of 40 found this review helpful
I had this CD, but it's been long lost....I was surfing the web the other day and came upon it again as good meditation music, so I ordered it from amazon... The first time I heard Nakai's music was at the Taos Pueblo and it has lost none of its ability to reach right down into the middle of me and speak to something very quiet and very still. I work in a very carbolic atmosphere with no privacy or peace....so, I put this CD on, slap on my headphones and I am transported. Enjoy!
Absolutely beautiful January 31, 2002 Circejane (Michigan) 30 out of 32 found this review helpful
As a massage therapist, I have a large collection of new age/meditation/classical CDs, and this is at the top of my list. Not only is it good for massage or relaxation, it is a pleasure to listen to for its own sake. It is soothing enough to be background music, but powerful enough to hold you, no matter what the activity. I highly recommend it!
The essence of peace is found here October 27, 1999 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
R. Carlos has such a peaceful aura about him, his music and his style. This is the most calming CD I have ever heard. He captures the listener, and transports them to a place where peace and harmony live and problems fall away.

If you have ever been to Mesa Verde or Canyon de Chelly, close your eyes and you will be back there... The music is timeless, haunting, and defies further description. If you enjoyed those places, you will enjoy this album.
A relaxing treasure February 2, 2000 Ron (New Jersey) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I purchased the audio cassette on a trip to visit relatives in Arizona years ago. I often play it at night to help me relax--so much so, that the cassette has worn out! (Hence my purchase today of the CD... :-)It's very natural and peaceful. Just set it on "Repeat" and let yourself unwind!
