Editorial Reviews:
Album Description 2008 release containing the first recordings by the Soul legend, Solomon may not have ever had a Top 20 hit, but he set the style for the emergence of Soul music in the early '60s. These recordings have been out of print for over 20 years and have never been available on CD. Solomon Burke began his musical life in the world of Gospel as a boy preacher in his home city of Philadelphia, featuring in his own 'Solomon's Temple' radio show. Shout.

Customer Reviews:
Adult-oriented Apollo recordings in the mid 50s August 8, 2008 detakoizu (Naha, Japan) This compilation is the Apollo set cut in his high-teens or twenty. His own composition called "Christmas Presents" is in the gospel style without chorus. The only tune predicting his reign as the King of Rock'n'Soul. Others are standard and jazzy in the format of Roy Hamilton or Ivory Joe Hunter. His crooning and soaring voice shows us his flexibility and versatility, however, there's little soul essence which we are anticipating to him. This is between the Wonder Boy Preacher days and the great Atlantic years.
