Amazon.com Imagine a big-time punk-pop trio from the Oakland area deciding, for fun, to record a cool song that reminded them of '60s garage rockadventurous, reckless, and edgy but with a "doo-doo-doo" party sound. Imagine the lovechild of an unholy marriage between The Stooges and Tommy James And The Shondells. Imagine the track, "Mother Mary," leaking out and amazingly going Top 20 Modern Rock. Imagine the mysterious "new" band then deciding to release an EP for free on the Internet. Now imagine a full-length albuman actual album you can hold in your hands, just like way back before the dawn of the new millennium! Imagine Foxboro Hottubs and the album Stop Drop And Roll.
Album Description Kerplunk! Californian quintet Foxboro Hottubs are poised to release their debut album 'Stop Drop And Roll!!!' on May 19th on Reprise. The album, also released on vinyl by Jingle Town Records, features the Billboard hit single 'Mother Mary'. 'Stop Drop And Roll!!!' features Foxboro Hottubs' energised hybrid of garage, rock 'n' roll and melodic punk that's reminiscent of cult bands such as The Network and Pinhead Gunpowder. The album includes the band's debut single 'Mother Mary' that hit the Top 20 of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks amidst frenzied comparisons with a certain hugely successful rock band. Foxboro Hottubs aren't part of a redneck agenda; their adrenalised sound is equally reminsicent of classic sixties rock on the stomping 'Ruby Room', retro power-pop on 'The Pedestrian' (sample lyric: "It doesn't take a genius to be an idiot") and the furious garage rock of the title-track. Consisting of Jason White, Jason Freese, Michael Pritchard, Frank Edwin Wright III and the Reverend Strychnine Twitch, the band stated, "We are four guys who love to play music and be spontaneous. After a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings." The band's name is explained simply: "The Foxboro Hottubs were a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night. But most of the time it was just 'dude soup'."

Those Green Day boys... May 21, 2008 More M (Pittsburgh, PA USA) 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
...they're at it again... This time with a summer offering for the kids. Not sure if it's just a Billie Joe Whats-his-name side project, but there's a new band called Foxboro Hot Tubs with a new disc. Sample the tunes on Amazon, but I don't think the samples do it justice. This disc wreaks of 60's pop, psychedelia, and garage punk sounds. Just the ticket to jump-start your summer if you're 40-something, male, & a lover of that kind of stuff. The songs hold up pretty well on their own without being total copies of the Kinks, Yardbirds, etc. It could be just the thing to get the kids of today weened off all the junk that they listen to, but more than likely it will just be a small blip on their radar screen....in a better world it would be #1 on the Billboard charts, but sadly, it ain't a better world when the kids skateboard to hip-hop etc., instead of pure sundrenched 60's pop. New/OLD Music from Weezer.... I MEAN GREENDAY!?! May 20, 2008 henrychinaski26 (Portland, OR) 7 out of 17 found this review helpful
Good album, but this sounds like Weezer scoring the next 6o's Throwback Tarantino flick... It's different, it's happy, and for a summer album, it works. This is classic pop rock. Companion this record with the Black Keys Attack and Release to complete your lazy long hot sweaty summer soundtrack and drive your car slow so that everyone can hear you. CHEERS!
Groovy 1960s Garage Sound May 21, 2008 X-RaySpex (Nashville, Tennessee USA) 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
I love this CD! I agree with another reviewer, the music reminds me a lot of the cool all-gal garage band The Pandoras. I just found out that they are really Green Day. Very cool.
Good, Fun Album. Too bad it's really short! May 21, 2008 trietta (Burbank, CA USA) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This album is the perfect thing for Green Day. Coming off a hugely successful opus (American Idiot), what better direction to go but the past? Songs have a definite retro vibe, but about half of them are definite old school Green Day-type tunes (just not the heavy punk-like songs). Songs are very catchy, not a bad one in the bunch. But at only 32 minutes, this is the shortest CD that I've bought since I bought "Beatles For Sale" to finish my collection. Good thing it was only $7.99. If you go in without the expectations of a valid Green Day follow up, and take this for what it really is...a side project, you will definitely be satisfied.
Exceed expectations May 21, 2008 J. Morgan 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'm surprised by how good this album is! It's a lot better than I thought it would be. It has a great, raw, garage rock sound to it. My favorite song is Broadway, but all of them are really good. Must-buy for Green Day fans!
