Pretty good September 24, 2007 Penlight (NJ USA) 36 out of 36 found this review helpful
This skin was pretty good - the silicone is very high quality and feels quite nice to the touch. I usually rub it just for fun. As other people have mentioned though, the edges don't fit perfectly but that hasn't caused any problems for me. The cover stays on perfectly and keeps everything underneath very clean. I picked up the cover edges just to check - it looks like some lint does accumulate around the edges of the cover, but it sticks to the silicone and not on your mac. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. Cons: the touchpad is exposed so this may cause some problems if you had a major spill? The letters don't match up 100% to the keyboard letters so if you get a white cover, you an actually see a faint outline of the keyboard letters through the cover. This is more of a problem with the caps lock where the green light doesn't match the dot on the cover either (this is definitely only a problem for crazy people like me) This cover does make it a little more difficult to type. When I first got it, I had to push much harder to get the keys down and the silicone seemed to go down only in the middle of the key, leaving a puckered rim of silicone around the edges of the key. This means that you have to push harder, type slower, and hit the key exactly in the middle. This greatly annoyed me when I first got the cover, but over time the silicone gets softer (or maybe I just got used to it?) Regardless, with this cover, you definitely sacrifice some speed and ease of typing for protection. For me, it was definitely worth it though since I have a white Macbook that really gets nasty without a cover (especially in the palm rest area.) My fingers I guess are grimy so when I close the Macbook, I get oily outlines of the edges of the keys on the screen once in a while. This means that the keys actually touch the screen but I've been able to deal with this with only a very occasional screen cleaning. I am concerned though that an edge of the raised portion of the "click" below the touch pad seems to touch the camera on the top of the Macbook. This so far has caused no problems for me though.
Keyboard skin = Ventilation Blocke December 24, 2007 Sam Gish (Phildelphia, PA USA) 25 out of 27 found this review helpful
I purchased this after I had had my MacBook for a little less than a week. I wanted something that would keep cat hair, crumbs and assorted junk from falling into the keyboard. After it arrived I installed it as instructed. After 30 minutes, the keyboard skin became very warm to the touch and the vent fan started up very loudly. I then removed the skin for a short time, as I was doing some processor intensive work. I tried it again when I was just doing word processing - the fan started up and the keyboard skin became very warm almost immediately. Without the skin my MacBook runs fairly cool(for a laptop) and the fan only runs occasionally. With the skin the book gets very hot. I've asked at the Mac store and at another Mac reseller about this and they say not to worry about overheating or putting anything on the keyboard - Directly contrary to what Apple writes in the instruction manual for all its laptops. So, I'm out $15 because I didn't RTFM - my bad, but maybe this will save someone else $15. (As much as I would like to return the item, it's just too much trouble and it does work well protecting the keyboard and screen when the laptop is off and in the briefcase.)
great skin, very attractive August 10, 2007 J. Zhou (USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a great product. I have the white skin and am using it on a white Macbook; the skin doesn't look superfluous or intrusive at all and maintains the sleek white beauty of the laptop. It's made of a durable rubbery material and fits neatly over the keys and handrest area of the keyboard surface. This will be very useful in protecting my laptop from dust and finger oils; the white Macbooks can get pretty nasty-looking after a while. The only thing is that the edges of this skin don't line up perfectly with the edges of the Macbook, but this is only a slight problem and does not really detract from the value of the product. The laptop still closes as it would have. Definitely recommended.
Interesting product September 26, 2007 Puddie Bear (Canal Winchester, OH United States) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This product arrived quickly and it does what it says. Apart from the skin lifting when you rest your wrists on it, I give it thumbs up.
WARNING: PLASTIC WILL STAIN YOUR MACBOOK May 24, 2008 N. Lui (San Francisco) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I wrote a review previously, praising this product. After about a month or so of using the Rasfox Macbook skin, I made a recent discovery to prompt me to write this followup review. I took the skin off to wash it and discovered that the plastic has somewhat reacted to the surface of my macbook. This could be because the machine does generate a small but insignificant amount of heat. Nevertheless, whatever material they choose to make this with should go through some sort of temperature testing before being sold for use. The material is sticky and after wiping it off with a damp cloth and water, the stickyness is gone but has left behind patches of lighter areas. It looks like what it would if you touched your macbook with greasy hands- only, it's there for good. I am REALLY annoyed about this because I purchased this product to protect my investment and it has done the opposite of what it's designed to do.
