Amazon.com Review Storing your favorite knives on a wall-mounted magnetic bar protects them from knocking around in a cluttered drawer where they can get dull and nicked. The bar lets you see the knife you want at a glance, so you don't have to pull several handles out of a wood storage block to find the right blade. And, let's face it, knives just look cool stuck to a wall bar. Bodum has infused this 19-inch magnet with gold, which isn't magnetic itself, but which enhances the magnetic properties of the steel. The result is an extra-strong pull that keeps even your formidable chef's knife secure. Best on the whole for small or medium-sized knives, the magnet comes with a wall-mounting template and hardware, and is perfect for compact kitchens where counter and drawer space is limited. --Ann Bieri

Contains gold for enhanced magnetic qualities? January 7, 2008 D. Hines 10 out of 62 found this review helpful
"Durable knife magnet infuses gold to give it enhanced magnetic properties" That would be a neat trick, given that gold is not magnetic.
Good price, I think. January 7, 2008 L. costello 10 out of 75 found this review helpful
I just purchased this--don't know exactly what I am going to do with it, but a 20-inch, super-strong magnet for 9.99 with free shipping seems like a good deal. I am thinking once I get it, I will think of a great application. I tentatively plan to put it above my desk to hold scissors, staples, clips, pictures, etc. I also have a steel entry door and am thinking of using it as a door stop to keep this door open.
Nice Useful and Stylish Accessory January 14, 2008 James Cooper (Pennsylvania) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you read the reviews, you'll notice that most people (or maybe no one) paid $70 for this magnet. I wouldn't even consider it at that price. But for less than $10, it's a great deal, and solves a big problem. That is having sharp knives in a drawer ready to cut you, or getting dull rubbing each other. The magnet is strong enough to support large knives. It looks good. And mounts relatively easily with the 2 included screws. Free shipping from Amazon clinches the deal. If you don't have one, the next time the discount comes along, grab one. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.
Fairly lightweight January 9, 2008 C. Weaver (Franklin, TN USA) 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
Two thin (1mm) magnetic bars behind a thin (less than 22 gauge) perforated stainless steel mesh wrapped around 4 plastic ribs. Not nearly as strong as I anticipated.
Only worth $9.99 paid January 12, 2008 Peggy (Norfolk, VA United States) 6 out of 16 found this review helpful
It's hard to imagine the regular price of this item getting any buyers. I bought it on one of the lightening deals after reading one of the reviewer's plans to use it to hold office supplies which I thought was a great idea. It is nice quality thin perforated stainless steel bar which unlike some Chinese stainless hopefully will not rust. It has to be nailed or screwed to a wall though. I was planning to use it on my lateral metal file cabinet which of course I cannot unless I use double faced foam tape which may not be strong enough to hold the weight of scissors or a stapler. It may end up on the garage wall for small metal tools or a gift in the Goodwill box.
