Excellent Handset July 24, 2007 Fatboy (United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
My last 3 or 4 handsets have been Uniden. This has been over the last 5 or 6 years, because they last a long time. My TRU8866 (correct #) is so good, I got new batteries. Ordered this unit for my buddies big house, with 5 extra handsets because it was the latest and greatest. Gotta get 5.8 these days cause that doesn't interfere with home networks. Good set - light, good reception, nice looking, built in speaker, small base unit. Highly recommended.
Overall Good Phone System September 22, 2007 Danny Stoll (Acworth, GA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Overall, this is a fairly good phone system. It has many useful features and the sound quality is good. This system is listed as a top pick of Consumer Reports There are a few quirks which prevent 5 stars. (1) You cannot make calls (i.e. use speaker phone) while phone is on the base. I would rather not have to take the phone off the base to conduct a conference call. Many other systems allow you to use speaker without removing the handset from the base. (2) You cannot use the speaker phone with the intercom option. This seems like a very strange limitation. (3) When paging another handset in the system, your own handset rings as well as the handset being paged (I cannot figure out the engineering logic to this one). The ringer is so loud, you cannot hold it up to your ear during paging. You have to wait for the paged handset to answer before putting your handset to your ear. I have found no way to disable this or to turn down the paging ring. You can adjust an incoming ring from an outside caller but not the paging ring. (4) You cannot rename handsets. It would be more user friendly to be able to rename handsets as "Family Room", "Kitchen", "Bedroom" etc rather than the current "Handset #1", "Handset #2" etc. I really liked the Philips CD4450B which is not limited by these issues. However, since it is limited to 5 handsets, I chose this system instead. I would have thought that a company like Uniden, who has made telephones for a long time, would be able to get the details right by now. How long have they been market testing phones anyway? Don't they conduct user testing before launching a product???
Works as advertised April 9, 2008 Mark A. Vaughan The phone is compact, has a lot of useful features, clarity is good, volume control is easy to use.......it's a good phone.
cordless phone May 10, 2008 kathy (minnesota) great phones! I already had uniden phones but they were 2.4 and interferred with the signal for the laptop computers as well as static from the microwave. these are wonderful and we've had no more problems since we got them.
Want speed dial? FORGET IT! May 22, 2008 F. Moore (USA) This phone does NOT have speed dial. You MUST scroll through its address book to select an entry. Who was the moron who made that design decision? It's like buying a modern car and finding out it doesn't come with anti-lock brakes or cruise control. (And, yes, I called the company just to make sure I hadn't missed speed dial in the manual.)
