Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The 26998GE1 900MHz cordless telephone with digital messaging, call waiting and caller ID combines the convenience of a telephone and messaging system in one unit. The 26998GE1 provides up to 14 minutes of instant message playback, a counter that displays the number of messages received and a voice stamp that recites the day and time of each message. The caller ID display lists the name and number of the incoming call, even when the phone is in use. Other convenience features include a receiver belt clip, and the desk- or wall-mounting capability of the phone. The 26998GE1 sports a brand new look, incorporating "nightglow" blue into the keypad, and an upright base that makes it easier for users to read the Caller ID display. The compact base design adds to the units' versatility, making the phones a perfect fit for the bedroom, living room or kitchen.

3 out of 5 stars Button Problems   May 8, 2005

Phone itself (reception, sound, answering machine, etc) works great, but the buttons stick and then fall off. I see from the reviews I am not the only one with this problem. I am in this site now to look for phones as I am now missing my #1, #3, and talk buttons. E-mailed GE to see the price of a new handset and got a useless response telling me to call some long distance number?! Off to buy a phone!

2 out of 5 stars Buyers beware!   September 6, 2005

This is a decent phone and answering system for about the first year, then two major problems start. If you have cell phones, charging them anywhere close to this phone will cause these problems to appear sooner than normal.

Buttons stick making it very hard to dial a number.

A clear conversation might be interrupted by "electronic noise."

1 out of 5 stars Terrible product - don't waste your money   August 1, 2004

This phone has two MAJOR problems.

First, the buttons become unresponsive and hard to press after a short period of time. We only had this phone for a few months before it became very hard to press the numbers, particularly the most-used numbers of our area code. It is now practically impossible to press the 2 button, and when you mash the 2 button with all your might, it then dials several 2's.

Second, after hanging up from a phone call or a misdialed call (see problem #1), you cannot immediately make another call. The phone simply will not give you another dial tone unless it has been "off" for a considerable period of time. This is unacceptable.

We are shopping for a better phone. Shame on GE for putting out such a bad product.

4 out of 5 stars The phone is fine, whine somewhere else   December 13, 2004

My folks who are in their late sixies have had this phone for over a year. It works just fine. My father suffers mild hearing lost, corrected with hearing aids. They have no problem hearing the messages, or with reception. In fact they like so much they want another one without the answering machine for another room. Just wanted to add a postive review to keep things balanced.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible Caller ID display, static on messages   December 11, 2002
3 out of 3 found this review helpful

Phone looks very nice and takes up little space on the wall, but it's a bad system. The display for Caller ID is bright neon and the letters are black, making for a difficult time reading who is calling.

In addition, the answering system is bad because of an abnormal amount of static.

Simply put, we bought this phone 4 days ago and are returning it.

We'll be adding even more exciting features to assist you in the coming year.
