Amazon.com Review Designed for a home or small office environment, the Casio Phonemate MA- 240 cordless digital phone handles up to two lines and 12 handsets, so it can expand as your business grows. The phone also transfers calls from one handset to another and supports conference calling. The MA-240 offers some fine features that more than offset a couple of nagging limitations. The MA-240 is about the size and weight of a cell phone, so it's one of the more compact cordless units we've tested. The small size results in some sacrifices: many of the buttons, especially those that control caller ID and hold, are too small to operate without looking at them, so you can't operate the phone solely by touch. Other phones in this class are generally bigger but are much easier to control. The MA-240's caller ID memory holds 30 numbers, but the compact two-line LCD screen can't display the caller's name and the phone number simultaneously. Also, the MA-240 supports only two phone lines, while comparably priced units usually handle four lines. On the positive side, the MA-240 is remarkably easy to set up. To add additional handsets, simply plug them into an AC outlet and they're immediately available as an extension. Also, the signal strength of the handsets is very strong, resulting in a long range of clear transmission. In our tests, we were able to take the handset outside for over 100 hundred feet--with no line of sight to the base station--and hold a conversation with relatively clear reception and minimal distortion. The MA-240 also has important features for small business use, including three-way conferencing, call transfer, and intercom calls between handsets. Despite a few shortcomings, most home and small-office workers will find the Casio Phonemate a fine choice. --John Frederick Moore Pros: - Easy setup
- Long range
- Clear sound
Cons: - Small buttons
- Small LCD screen
- Supports only two lines

The MA-240 is loaded with features, including type II call-waiting caller ID, which displays the names and numbers of incoming calls. Up to 30 call records are available to all handsets for easy one-touch dialing. To expand the system, simply connect the base to a two-line telephone jack, and you can add up to 12 handsets without additional telephone wiring. Each satellite handset only requires AC power to become a fully functional cordless extension. Two special features--900 MHz digital technology and sophisticated time division multiple access (TDMA) technology--allow the MH-240's base to communicate with up to 12 handsets with the performance, clarity, and security of 900 MHz digital operation. A handset-to-handset intercom allows long-range communication among individual handsets. The handset boasts a compact design, headset jack with belt clip, 10-number autodialing, call transfer from one handset to another, three-way call conferencing, Do Not Disturb mode (to silence the ringer and intercom), Hold button with audible reminder, and programmable line ringer, providing distinctive ringer tones for each line.

Could have been better June 7, 2000 David Renz (Suwanee GA) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
The two line, multiple headset capability drew me to this unit. The price is good compared with the Siemans gigaset, but the designers skimped in a few useful areas. The first is the memory. The unit's address book holds only 10 permanent one touch numbers which is far too few. The CID memory hold about 30 numbers which is better. Second the CID display is only 2 lines so it doesn't show both the ID and the phone number on one screen. There is a cumbersome scrolling procedure but they should have just added a third line to the display like my Sony. Finally, the setup and use of the phone is far too complicated. I have experience with setting up phones and other elctronic equipment, yet this set up challenged me. Overall just a cumbersome model but the price is right and the multiple headset feature is attractive.
nice idea (900mhz), bad implementation August 29, 2000 ronald s chong (alexandria, VA USA) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
i needed a multi-handset multi-line phone system for my home. the obvious first choice was the siemens gigaset, the unit that seems to start this whole multi-handset thing. but i also wanted to setup a wireless computer network (which runs on 2.4GHz as does the gigaset). this forced me to look for 900mhz systems. i was please to learn about the phonemate since it seems to be the only 900mhz multi-handset multi-line system. i bought it. we just hated the system. the sound was horrible. constant cheap-cordless-phone hiss on all extensions. proximity to the base made no difference. everyone who i called or who called me complained about the bad sound quality. in the end, i returned it and bought the siemens 2404 gigaset system (which cost exactly the same at the time). now that i have the gigaset, i realize how badly the phonemate system was implemented and how clumsy it was to interact with. i did have to give up my plans for a wireless network, but i need a phone more than being able to do email on my deck.
I WOULD SUGGEST YOU SAVE THE CASH, AND AVOID A LOT OF GRIEF August 10, 2001 D. hamilton (38 39' N -90 38' W) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Less than a year ago we purchased a pair of the Casio MA240's, also at a deep discount price that could not be published. These phones are just plain Junk! Costly yes, but still Junk. So "Put the credit card down and step away from the computer" Problems are many and they start early in the phones life. Problems such as > Volume gets lower and lower as time goes by. The number pad buttons either stick, or dont make any tones at all. Batteries lose all memory in a short period of time, and on top of that , it can be a little complicated to figure out many of the extra features. The best advice I can give you at this time is good luck finding a phone that will last more than a year as we have bought phones that range in price from 19.99 to 300.00 ( for pair) and they all seem to decay and stop functioning within a years time. We purchased our phones new, not reconditioned, and we surely never expected them to go bad, this quick.
Quality is not good September 22, 2000 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Agreeing with other reviewers, I have found the quality to be really bad on this phone. People I call are constantly asking me to speak up - it sounds like I am calling people from Mars. The buttons are too small and many times they do not "beep" correctly - an annoyance especially when I am calling into phone trees (you know the ones, press 1 then press 2). I am so sorry I bought this phone. What a waste of money!
Don't Buy, Even if Discounted December 31, 2000 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Now I know why the product was on sale, cheaper than the cost of a handset for the system. Range seemed OK although never really tested the full range of the unit. Speaker volume was decreased as previously noted. Battery life can be incredibly short. Truly annoying problem was that our other cordless phones seemed to malfunction periodically (never a problem previously), it would somehow misdial numbers constantly and we would have to revert to the other phones to complete the calls. Bought several of the systems and they are all going back. Should have checked out the reviews previously.
