Amazon.com Product Description Sony's SPP-A968 900 MHz digital spread spectrum (DSS) cordless phone incorporates a digital answering system with three mailboxes that provides a full 20 minutes of message space. Thanks to features like full remote operation, three separate mailboxes, automatic time/date stamp, and memo recording, the machine functions as a complete message center for busy homes or small offices. With subscription through your local service, you can access call waiting/caller ID information and return calls at the touch of a button, using the display-and-dial feature. The phone also offers Sony's jog dial, which lets you scroll through and select numbers from the 50-number speed-dial memory; three one-touch speed dial buttons also provide instant access for your most frequently-dialed numbers. Permanent flash memory stores speed-dial numbers and answering machine messages indefinitely, so don't fret about sudden power outages. The handset utilizes a durable NiCD battery, which lasts up to six hours of talk time or 10 days of standby time before it needs a recharge--make sure to let it run all the way down to avoid memory effect. What's in the Box SPP-A968, phone cord, power cord with adapter, one NiCD battery, user's guide, warranty card

Hate this phone!! September 10, 2003 Victoria A. Helmon (Redmond, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We loved our first Sony but have hated this phone from the day we bought it. The first annoyance is that it automatically (and constantly) searches for the channel with the most clear reception which results in constant moments of silence in your conversation as the phone switches. The other thing that totally drives us crazy is the answering machine. It has an incredibly annoying beep when there is a message - and there is no way to turn it off. Maybe some people need that so they remember to check but we do not! We don't answer the phone during dinner but are faced with the choice of getting up and listening to the message or listening to the continuous beeping during the rest of our meal. I also feel sorry for my poor animals having to listen to this high pitched beeping all day while we are out. The answering machine also talks to you which is very tedious. I can read the indicator, I don't need it to tell me every time I listen to my messages that "you have 2 new messages and new calls". It also does not allow you to delete messages without listening to them. So even if you are standing right there screening your calls, you still have to replay them to delete them.
a great phone October 15, 2002 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have one of these 968 phones and after being dropped, thrown by the kids, it still works and is just a little damaged and that's why I want to replace it. It was one of the best phones sony made, that's why they stopped making it!
Not impressed January 5, 2005 Eric A. Smalling (Euless, TX USA) Have had this phone for a few years and hate the beeping message indicator. The worst problem we've had is that the microphone seems to be very week, prompting callers to say "what?" very often. (It's not the battery either.)
