Amazon.com Product Description The CXAI5198 from Uniden is a combination corded/cordless phone system that comes loaded with features. The cordless handset comes with its own charging cradle and utilizes the 5.8 GHz frequency to deliver greater range and clearer reception than many traditional 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz phones. With the page button, you can easily find the misplaced handset, while headset compatibility gives you the option of hands-free communication. You can access features via an LCD screen found on the cordless handset and corded base unit, and you can choose between one of three menu languages (English, Spanish, or French). The CXAI5198 is compatible with caller ID and call waiting services, and has a 50-number caller ID memory. A 10-number speed dial is also provided for frequently called numbers. Display-and-dial lets you call any number from the caller ID or speed dial display simply by pressing the talk button. The corded base unit functions as a complete message center, with a built-in digital answering machine and hands-free speakerphone. The answering machine has a 13-minute maximum recording time and a selectable 1 or 4-minute maximum message length. Features such as call screening, memo recording, and call recording are provided; and you can access your messages while away from home with remote message check. With the intercom function, you can communicate from the base unit to the cordless handset, while three-way conference calling lets both locations talk to an outside call at the same time. You can place a call on hold or temporarily mute your side of the conversation. The base unit is wall-mountable, providing you with extra placement options, and both tone and pulse dialing modes are available depending upon your needs. Uniden also provides a one-year limited warranty. no problems October 4, 2005 Cynthia Shamo 68 out of 69 found this review helpful
We bought this phone about a month ago, and have had no problems with the volume of the cordless phone as one reviewer stated. This was the cheapest corded/cordless phone around and we found that the Ni-Cad battery can be replaced with Ni-MH, which we were looking for in a phone since our last phone's battery kept dying fast. We have been impressed with the sound quality and all the extras that this phone has. We like having a corded phone, as well as a cordless, so we always know where one phone is located when we're trying to answer the phone. We think it was a very good buy.
Nice unit, overall, for the price September 21, 2005 Gina 62 out of 62 found this review helpful
I bought this phone after reading reviews on Amazon and Consumer Reports. I was looking to replace a Panasonic phone (model KX-TG2382) that I bought only 2 years ago, and always had problems with (had a clicking noise on the phone line). Since the Panasonic phone was out of warranty, they wouldn't fix it or exchange it! So far, I have been very happy with the Uniden. It was reasonably priced, and I like having a line that won't go dead in a power outage. The only drawbacks I can see are the lack of speakerphone on the handset unit. Another reason I only gave this unit 4 stars is because if you program the handset to be in "AutoTalk" mode, and you have the handset somewhere besides sitting in the cradle, then you can't answer that phone by hitting the talk button. So, I found the handset a bit confusing in this mode. Also, the answering machine recordings sound a bit too "digital" for me. However, the voice quality of both the base phone and the handset are very clear, and I'm happy with that!
A Phone that answers all our needs April 1, 2006 J. Smith 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
My wife and I are over 65 and need a phone with big volume, big buttons, and ease of use. This phone has all these and more. I really like its auto dial system that lists on its base what you have programed, then lets you scan through the people to the one you want, then simple hit the talk button. I really like the combination of a base speaker phone with corded handset and answering machine. I use the speaker phone all the time and my wife prefers the handset. It comes with a cordless handset which my wife has in her bedroom. For the first time my wife has no trouble using the telephone and using auto dial and she can turn the volume up so she has no trouble hearing. It also has recorded instructions and help features in case you've forgotten the exact procedure for a feature you don't use often. We love this phone. It's a great buy!
Bad cordless phone June 6, 2005 Jane Smith (Virginia) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
We bought this phone with the hopes of having one corded phone (in case of power outages) and one cordless phone. The cordless phone works intermittently. It does not matter how close or far you are from the base, sometimes the volume just cuts out. It does not hang up on the person you are talking to, just the volume acts as if it drops down to "1" and you can't hear what they are saying. We now can only use the corded phone. In the past I have been very happy with Uniden, I will be returning this phone perhaps for a Motorolla.
Uniden Service September 17, 2005 Donald Lindke (New Cumberland, Pa. USA) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
I bought my new Uniden phone from Amazon and found upon setting it up that it did not ring or go to the answering machine. I called the customer support number in the users manuel and they told me I would have to return it to the address listed. I did that and waited almost a month for a replacement. The replacement was an old, rebuilt dirty unit with nicks and scratches. That's Uniden's replacement for a new phone that doesn't work. Not good customer relations.
