Crummy laser pointer -- DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! October 25, 2003 BCook (Springfield, MO USA) 36 out of 38 found this review helpful
The ClearLine model 2001 is a very lame laser pointer. First of all, it is only rated at 3.5mW, rather than the much more typical <5mW output power provided by other laser pointers. Secondly, it emits a 650nm red beam, which is far less bright than the "bright red" laser pointers that emit at 635nm. You wouldn't think that 15nm here or there would make much difference, but believe me, it does. On the same general topic, make sure to avoid any red laser pointer that emits at 670nm -- they are way too dark.Laser pointers are a lot of fun, but I *HIGHLY* recommend green laser pointers (emitting at 532nm)over red laser pointers. The human eye is something like 40 times more sensitive to the greenn wavelength than to red, and with a good green laser pointer, you can actually see the beam sslicing through the night sky, which is VERY cool. Unfortunately, green laser pointers are much more expensive than red laser pointers. If you want an inexpensive laser pointer, try to find a red pointer emitting at 635nm with an output power of no less than <5mW !!! Under no circumstances would I recommend the ClearLine model 2001 laser pointer, however. I bought it, and it is far, far less bright than any of the other red laser pointers I have. You can find much better red laser pointers in the same general price range with a little searching around.
ok... at first May 27, 2001 Carleton M. Torpin (San Diego, CA) 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
I got this laser a few days ago, and after 3 days it has stoped working. It will go on every now and then, but it is pretty inconsistant. This may be due to the button or somthing inside. Also, amazon claims it has a range of 1,500 YARDS. but the package says 1,500 FEET. No big deal, since when it does work it is pretty bright. All in all, you get what you pay for, if you want one that will last, try the sharper immage ones, i bought one 5 years ago and it still works to this day.
Great Little Laser April 2, 2001 M. MIDDLETON (Pepperell, MA United States) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
At the time I bought it, it was selling for 4.95. Even now it's listed at 9.95 it's a great deal. I have had several lasers but this one is great. It takes 2 aaa batteries which last a very long time.......much longer that I would have thought. The dot is bright red and is very simple to use. Unlike the other cheaper ones that take harder to find button batteries, the aaa ones are much easier to find and replace when needed.
optically ok, mechanically -- TRASH May 23, 2003 Fred R. Nelson (Columbia, MD USA) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
One of the owners had his unit die after a week -- mine died within 30 minutes. On investigation, installing fresh batteries caused so much resistance heating that the aluminum case became impossible to hold -- CAN YOU SAY FIRE HAZARD? The reason for this was that the flimsy spring used to compress the batteries had shifted and lodged against the aluminum case causing a short circuit. There should be a 0.1 cent plastic sleeve to prevent this. This product should be recalled and trashed. I'd send it back -- but I used a tubing cutter to find out what was wrong. At least it won't be re-sold to some other dupe. You really do get what you pay for.
Non-nonsense, useful, and dependable February 24, 2002 A customer (Columbus, OH) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
As a college professor, I find the Clearline's CL2001 Pen Shaped Laser extremely useful for class lectures and discussions, as well as for conference presentations. Laser pointers, in general, are practical in the classroom. While extendable, metal pointers are just as portable, laser pointers work much better, since they allow the teacher to point at something on the screen from a much greater distance, including from a podium in front of a computer some distance from the screen located in front of the classroom. In the case of presentations in lecture halls equipped with a large screen that extends to the ceiling, a laser pointer may be the only way to point to something that is well out of reach. Clearline's CL2001 Pen Shaped Laser is a no-nonsense, dependable, practical, and *affordable* tool for instructors for classroom use and seminar/conference presentations. In addition, the AAA batteries are inexpensive, convenient to replace, and last a long time.
