Amazon.com Product Description The KX-TGA270S from Panasonic is an add-on extension handset designed for use with KX-TG2700S, KX-TG2720S, KX-TG2730S, or KX-TG2740S Expandable Cordless Systems. By utilizing the 2.4 GHz frequency band, as well as Frequency Hopping Digital Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology, the KX-TGA270S provides crisp, clear reception even at significant distance from the base. An illuminated keypad makes dialing easy in the dark, while a headset jack gives you the option of hands-free operation. Four-way conferencing allows you to talk with multiple people, while a two-way intercom lets you communicate with family and friends near the other phone. With call waiting, you won't miss any important calls, while Caller ID (with subscription to telephone company services) means you can avoid those calls you would rather miss. A great way to expand your current Panasonic phone system, the KX-TG2700S also features six selectable ring tones as well as a handset volume control. Panasonic also provides a one-year parts and labor warranty.
Product Description Panasonic offers this KX-TGA270S 2.4GHz Cordless Handset. You can use multiple handsets without worry of cross-talk or eavesdropping because the FHSS technology randomly changes frequencies several times per second. This Handset features Privacy Mode. You can block all other handsets from joining in on the conversation. This feature automatically shuts off when the call is completed. 4-Way Conferencing allows for conference in one outside line on up to 4 handsets simultaneously with the MultiTalk Expandable System. You can quickly and easily conference in on an existing conversation between another handset and an outside line. From the base unit or a handset, you can call any other extension in the system. From the base unit or a handset, you can call any other extension in the system. 4-Line Backlit LCD on Handset shows Call Status, Programming Options, Directory Items, and if you subscribe, up to 3 lines of Caller ID information, so there's no need for scrolling. Backlighting greatly aids visibility especially in low light areas. Share the names and phone numbers programmed in one handset with any other handset in the system. 6-Selectable Ring tones allow for personalizing your ring tone to alert you when there is an incoming call.

Fix for battery life problem September 30, 2004 t9k (Bethesda, MD USA) 74 out of 74 found this review helpful
The battery life is very poor in these phones after you have had them for a few months. To fix the problem, get Energizer ER-P511 batteries. These are Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries that are designed to replace the low-quality batteries that come with these phones. After installing these batteries, we have seen battery life improve greatly.
Good, But I Still Want Better May 9, 2003 R. A. Levien (Lexington, MA USA) 17 out of 22 found this review helpful
A nice system overall, but not nearly perfect. We purchased a set of these to replace our burnt out Siemens Gigaset 2402 system. While we were happy to have something that worked...the features and design of this system leave much to be desired. Numerous minor inconveniences and awkwardnesses make these phones less than they could be--nothing major, and perhaps only noticeable when compared with the excellently designed Siemens phones (really nothing more than the difference between Japanese and German design). Two features stand out in comparison with our retired Siemens phones, one negative and one positive. On the positive side, these phones support detection of voice messages on an existing message system, so that it is easy to see from any handset whether there are unplayed messages on either line. On the negative side, the system does not support handset naming. We imagined this would be a minor inconvenience when we bought the phones, but it has proved to be a major drawback: there's simply no way to get the entire family to learn what number goes with what phone. When we had the Siemens system, which supports handset naming, the we had a working intercom system (not to mention convenient transfers of calls); now we're back to shouting.
There is a fix for the battery life problem September 27, 2004 Phone Owner 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
We experienced the same problems everybody else is reporting about the short battery life. But it turns out that if you clean the contacts on the battery, the springs, and on the bottom of the phone with alcohol, and insert some cardboard between the non-contact end of the battery and the wall of the battery compartment (thereby pushing the battery into the springs with more force), the battery problems go away. So, it's not the battery, charger, or power-management software--it's just a mechanical problem. With that problem fixed, this is an excellent phone system. (By the way, we're told that Uniden phones have excellent battery life.)
What Did We Do Without This? February 5, 2003 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I can't share enough of the positive things about this phone system. My husband and I are so pleased with it. Our favorite feature is the intercom system, which has been a lung-saver in our house --allowing us to just call each other rather than roam around the house and holler. I find other comments about battery life unfounded, and wonder if these individuals had the phone on "booster" -- which, if you read the manual, will improve your signal but drain the battery quickly. I have yet to experience the need to put the phone on booster (and we live in a rural area), and have not had a battery run dead while talking. I usually recharge the phones every 2-3 days. I also like the fact that the handset comes with a speaker phone. A great feature when trying to manage the kids, dinner and talk. The ringer selections are great too -- providing a wide variety. (Finally a phone that doesn't jolt you out of a deep sleep!) Program your phone numbers in one phone and press just a couple buttons to transfer that directory to another. No more searching for the address book! Reception has been flawless. Operation and programing easy, easy, easy. This one is a must buy!
The worst cordless Panasonic ever produced! September 23, 2002 Anton Naduwilage (Montrose, CA United States) 9 out of 15 found this review helpful
I am a Panasonic fan when it comes to cordless phones. I have used over ten Panasonics over the years since the introduction of cordless phone. I purchased this because of the reputation Panasonic had build on me. But I was wrong! This Phone is not a "Panasonic". I can barely hear the other party-I don't have any hearing problem-even at full level of volume. if I connect it to a headset there is a hum. My friends ask me if I am in propeller plane. The biggest disappointment is the battery. You won't believe this, but, this phone needs to be charged every 2 days. I don't use this phone at all (because of above reasons) but the battery goes COMPLETELY EMPTY IN 2 DAYS. Don't waist your money, this phone is useless!
