5 out of 5 stars King Crouton of grills   January 8, 2008

This is one solid grill. The panels, grates, double walled cabinet doors, side shelves all are robust in materials and design. The assembly was minimal, I had it together in 15 minutes. At first I thought the handle lamps and lighted panel were gimmick, but actually are very functional. At 70K BTU, this grill packs a mean punch. It zoomed up to 700'F in less than 10min, so cleaning this afterwards is a breeze. My first use were two 2lb chickens on the rotisserie; the S-670 performed gallantly. If I were to pick a weak spot, it would be the caster wheels; they are a bit on the light-duty side especially when compared with the rest of the grill. I suggest registering warranty by phone, the customer service rep will share with you use and care instructions not as obvious in the manual.

I ordered from Rainbow Appliance, Best Price and fast shipping. The grill went together fast in about 30 minutes. It is a solid well built grill that lights with a turn of a knob and heats up to 600 degrees in minutes. It cooks everything so well that I now look like a top chef. The high heat sears your meat, fish, chicken and, vegetables nicely. The grill lights work great and not a gimmick to me. The rotisserie will turn you into a cook of juicy meats and performs turning two chickens without and issue.

The hard part for me was the smoker box with the dedicated burner. I recommend following the instructions on page 25 of the manual to avoid burning the chips up too quickly. Once I got it, boy does it work well.
I hope that the burners last for years. Given that they and the grate are stainless steel they should and Weber backs this up with a 10 year (burner) and five year (grate) warranty.

Truly a dream to cook on with enough room for everything for a group of 8: meats and veggies all at once.

1 out of 5 stars disgusting design flaw leaks water and grease   August 21, 2008

I purchased this grill as a replacement for an older weber and returned it as defective. the replacement also was flawed and was taken back. There is a serious disgusting design flaw on this model. there is a large gap all along the attachment of the grill to the cart that leaves a one inch opening around it. In ANY rain storm water leaks in here, runs down the grease trap catcher and fills the grease pan that sits in the cabinet. In a short time your entire cabinet fills with a flood of rotting greasy overflow and water destroying anything inside. Weber claims to know nothing of this and asked for photos to analyze but if you search on line for this problem you will see many many people have had it and demanded refunds from weber. Their only answer is to leave the grill covered at all times when not in use-- this is just unacceptable for a $2000 grill. Beware!

The juices of the meats are seared inside. No flame ups, even heat distribution and everything comes off the grill evenly browned and looking like the meals you get at fine restauraunts. Worth every penny

I, too, ordered through Rainbow Appliance through Amazon.com. It was a great experience (great price, fast shipping, no damage).

As for the grill, it is wonderful. Heats quickly and holds heat well, and has plenty of useful features. The grill lights are thoughtful and work well. It's also nice to look at, so my wife approves. The warranty and American made quality reinforced my decision to invest in this grill.

For those who are wondering about the sear burner, here are my thoughts. I recently purchased and returned another brand new large grill that had an infrared sear burner (from a large discount member warehouse store). It was returned for being of generally low quality and because of poor customer service. While its infrared burner worked fairly well, it was difficult to light. Also, when you didn't need the IR burner, the entire area of the grill that is dedicated to it became a place for "baking" your food since you couldn't use it as a regular burner. With the Weber 670, the sear burner is in between two regular burners in the center of the grill, so you can use it to give a good sear, or you can turn it off and just use the regular burners. It works very well. Buy yourself an extra long set of grilling tools.

FYI, even without using the sear burner, though, you can get a good sear on this grill. I just like the extra BTUs that it brings for quickly searing steaks.

One other thing. I use the side burner often. Like other features, it is high quality. However, with my sturdy pots and pans, it is almost too hot on the lowest setting for simmering with the lid on (e.g., cooking a side rice dish), as it boils vigorously rather than gently simmering. That's the closest I can come to a complaint about this grill. I highly recommend it.
