Versatile tools I use multiple times each day. January 17, 2007 J. Manly (Honolulu, HI United States) 84 out of 85 found this review helpful
Like several other reviewers, I have some small glass bowls of similar size, and used them regularly for mis en place. I bought their silicone equivalent, originally, because with glass and a tile floor in the kitchen there is always a concern about breakage. Their flexibility makes it easy to use them as funnels when you add ingredients. However, the use of these pinch bowls extends far beyond food prep. Children/grandchildren love these--while you will likely appreciate their unbreakable nature. Their tiny size lends to provide automatically appropriate portion control for sweets & treats, too. They are the perfect size for holding and (since they are microwaveable) for warming baby food in small amounts. (Use defrost, stir well and check the temperature before spooning any warmed food into baby's mouth.) They are perfectly sized for mealtime with toddlers who can be easily overwhelmed by too big servings. Great also for toddlers who fuss about having different foods touch. My husband's mother served what she called 'no, thank you servings' to grandchildren -- a tablespoon of a new food to be tried. She would have loved having these little bowls to use! Nutritionists tell us to eat a variety of foods, but it takes multiple exposures to develop a taste for different foods. Vitamins, supplements, meds fit nicely in these. The bright colored bowls serve as eye-catching reminders. (BUT if you have young children in your household, keep them safe from poisoning, and use another method.) Nice for dipping sauces in individual servings at the table. Helpful for portion control for adults, too. These hold about an ounce (2 Tbsp) --the recommended serving size for healthy foods such as nuts & dried fruits. They are environmentally friendly, too. You can use them over and over. Finally, they really are cute, extremely easy to wash by hand, and plain fun to use. CAVEAT: These are small enough that I would not be willing to let a child under 2 use them unsupervised, because of the small risk of choking. DON'T ASK HOW I KNOW: If you have a dog or a bird in the parrot family, it makes sense to keep these out of their reach. These bowls can be destroyed through diligent chewing. If you have a novice cook in the household, remind them that these are not suited to mincing or slicing.
I love these bowls November 14, 2005 NuJoi (Chicago, IL United States) 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
These little bowls are perfect for chopped herbs, garlic, vanilla. I also use them when working with poultry to hold salt and pepper. Their flexible shape makes them easy to use. I have small glass bowls as well, but I find myself reaching more for these. Dishwasher safe and they don't take up a lot of space. These fun bowls definitely make mis en place easier.
My new favorite gadget! January 2, 2006 Carole T. Bush (Western PA) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
I bought 2 sets of these to use as stocking stuffers for my girls, and thought they were so cool that I ordered a set for myself. I've already found them useful for pouring peppercorns into my peppermill & adding ingredients to my little Cuisinart grinder. Saves on messes! The girls loved theirs, too.
great, versatile bowls! January 23, 2006 Karin D. (Michigan) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
My 2 1/2 year old daughter and I love these bowls. I had originally gotten them for myself, to use while baking & cooking, but they really are just the right size for her little fingers. We use them as "dippy bowls" by putting ketchup or ranch dressing in them, and she also likes to feed her dolls "soup" in them. I love them for cooking especially. I always have one in the fridge holding my garlic, and it never absorbs the garlic odors. I am 100% pleased with my purchase!
Just what I was looking for. October 14, 2005 Bookworm (Azusa, CA USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I first saw this type of pinch bowl used by one of the chefs on the Food Network. A great concept for a cook with carpal tunnel. They are pliable and small enough but not too small for use with spices. I initially thought some of the finer ground spices would stick but they haven't so far. I don't use a dish washer so I can't comment on how they fare with the hot water, a simple hand wash and rinse is just fine. They are what I expected for my use.
