Amazon.com Product Description
Sure, it's easier to open your eyes and drag yourself out of bed when you're facing a day of backcountry hiking instead of a long commute. But if a cup of hot coffee can make the workday bearable, just think of what it can do for a day on the trail. Enter the GSI Lexan JavaPress, a virtually unbreakable campsite coffeemaker that will keep you caffeinated for years to come. The JavaPress is made of FDA-approved Lexan resin polycarbonate, an ultra-rugged material that won't stain or hold flavors. As a result, you can use and re-use the French-press-style coffeemaker until coffee goes out of style. The stable, anti-slip base, meanwhile, is fully removable in case you need to clean the Lexan body or reduce weight. Best of all, the JavaPress is easy to use: simply measure the proper amount of coffee, add water just off a boil, and let sit for four to five minutes. Once you press down the filter screen, you'll have rich, delicious coffee that's as good as the pros make.

The JavaPress also includes a thermally insulated, closeable dispenser cap and an insulated JavaWrap to keep your coffee warm. Available in three sizes--10 ounces, 33 ounces, and 50 ounces--the JavaPress makes an ideal camping companion.

Great product. Love the fact that it's shatterproof(perfect for camping). Used it for the first time 2 weeks ago. Very easy to use. Came with an insulating wrap to keep the coffee hot. Exceeded my expectations.

2 out of 5 stars Broke after using camping 1 time   September 29, 2007

I was really upset that after using this for camping 1 time the inside of the press broke into pieces, I can't even fix it. For one thing these presses inside should not be made of plastic there is to much pressure.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product, just use some care   April 24, 2008

This is perfect for camping. I like it because there's no glass to break. It's not near as bad as some other reviews say. Maybe they were pumping the thing. Having said that, I just bought another to replace my first one. I broke it by applying too much force. I had used it heavily both at home and a LOT of camping for over a year. Just don't force that plunger down, and read those instructions.

1 out of 5 stars I actually tried it three times before returning it   January 14, 2007
Wren (Mililani, HI United States)
I bought this item after receiving the 33 oz. version for Christmas. My husband and I really like how it worked so we decided to purchase the 10oz. size for when we only need to press one cup of coffee.

BAD MOVE!

First of all, the designing is different from the 33 oz. press. There is no "O" ring on the plunger. The mesh is different in design. When I pressed the plunger down, I noticed that grounds would still come through. Oh, okay ... I can deal with that. Then when you pour it through the spout, there is another stainless steel mesh at that area. That mesh would get clogged with the grounds that came through the plunger mesh and then the coffee would not flow smoothly but down to a very slow trickle.

So I thought I did something wrong so I tried it again on two other occasions. Same complaints would occur. So I ended up calling the company that I ordered it from. Regardless if we had used it, thank goodness they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee policy. I was told to return it for refund and they would report incident to GSI.

If it weren't for the trouble with the faulty design I would have given it 2 STAR because the coffee tasted great. I would not recommend this item for anyone to purchase UNLESS THE PLUNGER AND/OR MESH IS UPDATED!

1 out of 5 stars It broke after 2 weeks.   December 10, 2007
Baja Ellen (Baja California, Mexico)
The press mechanism broke in the 2nd week of a 3-week sailing vacation. It can't be fixed, so it's of no use any more. Before that, it made great coffee and appeared to be perfect for use on the sailboat.
