This Thing REALLY Does The Job Fast! And They Don't Get Away! February 23, 2007 Sheryl Cutler (Charleston, SC United States) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is THE best rat trap I've ever used! I don't have to worry about smashing my fingers by accident while trying to get it into position; to set this one you just step on the back of it (or you can squeeze it with your hand). I don't set it off by accident as I'm trying to maneuver it into position; this one isn't on a hair trigger like the old fashion kind. Meerly jostling it won't set it off. The rat can only approach from the desired side so there is no chance of him being tossed away from the trap as can happen with the old fashion kind. Best of all, there is virtually NO WAY for a rat to get to the bait without setting this thing off - every time! That's because the bait is positioned such that he must press the lever to get to it. It's also positioned such that they never get "kinda" caught. Lastly, those "teeth" pretty much insure that he's not going anywhere. With the regular trap I had more sprung traps that caught rats. With this trap I got one within the 1st hour of setting it out, over and over and over again! It works!
Ideal for those who enjoy torturing small creatures March 30, 2008 T. Chu (Mountain View, CA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Look, I dislike rats as much as anyone, and I'm well aware of the finger-breaking potential of the traditional rat trap. So I had high hopes when I placed the Snap Trap, baited with peanut butter, in my attic. A few days later, in the middle of the night, I heard a commotion in the attic that sounded like a squeaking monkey banging on a cooking pot. This went on for several hours before I dragged my sorry @#! out of bed, climbed a ladder, and found a rat, its head completely enclosed in the trap, squeaking pitifully and trying to escape. Recall that an ordinary trap works by snapping the rat's neck. The rat dies instantly. This device, on the other hand, merely grabs the rat's head with the force of a small binder clip. The rat then suffocates, if it's lucky, or starves. Either way, it's a slow, slow death. This inadequate force, by the way, is also why the snap trap is safer for humans. In the end, I had to kill the rat myself. Wasn't that the trap's job? So, if you enjoy hearing tortured animals slowly suffocate or starve in your attic (for hours, or possibly even days), then you should certainly purchase this product. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Great traps April 18, 2008 Headphone Pilot (New Jersey) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I switched over to these traps several years ago and I think they are great! Actually, snap traps are MOST effective when they catch the prey across the back, compressing the chest and causing the pest to suffocate quickly. These traps are every bit as effective in this regard as the traditional snap traps. Catching by the neck in a steel wire trap can create a mess -- I've never had that problem with these. In order to ensure a clean kill I put the bait as far back into the trap as possible, so the pest has to reach well into the trap. Bottom line, you can bait these wherever it's convenient, put them in place, and THEN set them -- you don't have to handle a "set" trap. It's the safest most effective trap I've ever used.
Great Trap for Ground Squirrels too! July 7, 2008 Callm-In "Dave" (NE,USA) Had 5 ground squirrels making tunnels in my backyard. Bought two tomcats and had all five in a day and a half. Used peanut butter. Trap is easy to bait and set - but when they get snapped they don't get out. Had no misfires. Think they were waitng in line to enjoy their "treat".
This thing works! August 21, 2008 Meatyard (Englewood, NJ) I am having a chipmunk problem in my garden. I was using old fashioned rat traps and they kept getting licked clean. Its impossible for the victim to lick this bait without setting it off. I actually got a skunk last night. I'm not out to get anything other than chipmunks, and luckily, the skunk was able to get itself out of the trap. Its also reusable, which is nice.
