20 year old model is much better August 29, 2008 Trapper from Burlington MA I gave my old trap (20+ years) to one of my Sons and it is still working fine. However this new model was a mistake to buy. It arrived not fully assembled, and was awkward to figure out how fix it according to the instructions. Finally got it working, but the two-door operation is not at all practical, and does not function reliably. Stricktly a one door gadget. Finally Opening the door for release/removal of the animal (especially a skunk), is nowhere as easy as their old design. The old trap was easy to set up and use, and also safe/easy to remove/release animals as needed... Why can't these young engineers recognize and leave a good thing alone!!!
5 Critters in 5 Days August 2, 2008 L. Adams (UT USA) The trap works wonderfully. I use it to catch the skunks and racoons that have been eating my chickens and pheasants. Raccoons are not native to my area and the local animal control will not do anything about them so it has been nice to have a tool that makes catching and exterminating the pests very simple. Putting a little tuna fish under the trip seems to work best. I tried eggs too, but found that the animals were smart enought to avoid the trip. Putting tuna fish or something else that has lots of smell under the trip seems to get one every time. I'll probably buy another one of these next year if I have the cash. Wish they were about $20 cheaper, oh well.
Trap not suited for trapping cats May 7, 2008 J. Phillips 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I rescue feral cats--I trap, neuter & return. This trap has a design flaw. The trap is designed to be operated with both doors set, allowing the cat to enter from either door, and the trip plate is in the center of the trap. I was a little apprehenisive, given the location of the trip plate, so I decided to try it out on my own cats first who are relatively small --8 lbs. I placed food in the center of the trap as advised. When one cat tripped the plate with her front paw, the door slammed her tail between the door and wall! After my other cat ate the bait and tripped it with his rear paw, he got his head banged by the door! Hardly a humane trap! I'm here to resuce cats, not injure them in the process. Thank God he didn't get his nose broken. Not only that, the doors close way toooo forcibly--bang! Scared me (and my cats) half to death. I currently use tru-catch traps model 30LTD, whose trip plate is at the rear of the trap, which are very quiet and do not injure the cats under any circumstance.
Safe, reliable, and HUMANE trap for feral and stray cats February 17, 2008 D. Smith (Vero Beach, Florida) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This trap is used to catch feral and stray cats to be spayed or neutered. It is safe and does not harm the animals. The safety of the people trapping is also ensured through the use of this trap. Another trap just like this has been in service for 20 years.
works ok unless your animals are to smart or to fat February 11, 2006 A. Mandeville (Connecticut) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
apparently mine were both...but we did get um eventually...the release could be a little more sensitive ours would go in eat and leave without triggering it...so we had to play with it a bit to make it trigger happy...
