A handsome heavyweight, the Franklin rocking chair from Oxford Garden Designs will provide years of comfortable seating. With its gently curved seat and seatback, the chair cradles the sitter and is reassuringly supportive. It's also generous in its dimensions, with a wide seat, ample armrests, and a notably high seatback. Crafted from shorea wood, a weighty, teak-like semihardwood from Indonesia, the chair is highly resistant to rot and the elements. It also ages well, weathering to a soft, warm gray or maintaining its original color with periodic applications of teak oil. Like other Oxford Garden Designs pieces, the rocker is constructed with sturdy mortise and tenon joinery. The density and weight of the wood add to the stability of the construction. The chair measures 27 by 32 by 43-3/4 inches and requires basic assembly. Oxford Garden's pre-assembly steps simplify the process. --Emily Bedard

Disapointed fit and finish May 12, 2004

First of all, this item is shipped as freight, so delivery is not via the UPS guy like most of my Amazon products.
Secondly, some of the pieces were labled wrong. The seat had a sticker on it (Back) that was clearly in the front by the illustration--and the only way it would fit together. The major assembly is by Tenon and dowels, which is fine, but impossible to take apart to replace or re-asseble (see next point).
Finally, one of the pre-assembled joints was poor and I had to use glue to keep it together. All-in all, I don't recommend this product.
