Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Ranked "One of the best new Spring products" by Popular Science magazine, the NEUTON Cordless Electric Mower is ideal for people with quarter-acre or smaller lawns who don not want the headache, backache or hassle associated with gasoline powered mowers. With the NEUTON, there is no arm-yanking pull-starts...no messing with gas and oil...and no struggling with a heavy lawn mower. This lightweight wonder starts instantly with a gentle squeeze of the handlebar and runs for up to 1 hour on a single charge, and never needs a tune-up! And when it comes to mowing, the NEUTON is the easiest to use, quietest mower you've ever tried. It glides easily across your lawn and is 50% quieter than a gas lawn mower. But the NEUTON is more than just a lawn mower. This innovative machine also features an optional Trimmer/Edger Attachment that travels with the mower. The Trimmer/Edger Attachment uses a nylon cutting line to TRIM horizontally or at a 45 angle around trees and other obstacles. Or, set it vertically to EDGE along walks, drives, or planting beds. With the NEUTON Trimmer/Edger Attachment there's no need to fuss and strain with a gas-powered trimmer again! Features: 14 inch cutting width. Rear-discharge or bag. Easy single-point height adjustment. Includes charger. Arrives fully assembled.

1 out of 5 stars bad decision   July 21, 2008

I'm definitely into saving the earth, but this mower is not the machine to do it. Narrow cutting strip and battery had to be re-charged constantly (so much for conservation on electricity). Used it once and when we called to return it, Neuton charged $100 'processing' fee. Do not recommend dealing with this company. Find a more user-friendly product and company to go green.

4 out of 5 stars Great Battery Operated Mower   June 18, 2008

I just purchased the newer version of this mower 1 week ago. It is the model 6.2 with a 19" cutting width. Overall, I am very satisfied with a couple of exceptions:

1. I don't like the rear bagger, it is difficult to remove, but this is minor. The bagger is also a little smaller than I am used to.

2. The Trimmer/Edger Attachment is novel, but it won't be replacing those tools in my garage anytime soon as it is more suited for long straight passes. You can't get into tight spots. The edger is okay as long as the mower is on the sidewalk.

Battery life is terrific and it cuts the grass terrific. I have bermuda grass and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I can get my front, back and side yards done on one battery. My yard is small, less than .20 acres.

Its quiet. I like that I can mow early in the morning before the Texas heat kicks in.

I bought the accessory kit that came with the trimmer/edger, extra blade and bolt, three spools of trimmer line, and a spare battery. I would recommend just getting the blade, sharpner and extra battery. I am a little disappointed that the spare battery does not come with its own charger. I don't know how much that part costs, but I will be picking one up so I can have both batteries getting juice during the winter months.

In all, if you have a small yard this is a great alternative to a gas mower. No more gas cans, spark plugs, gas conditioner, or other tune up costs. It is an expensive mower, but I got mine with a rebate that was offerred by my city to clean up pollution.

I would recommend this mower to a friend with the warning that you will be mowing more often as this won't handle 12 inch grass. Then again, neither did my gas mower.

After struggling trying to start the gas lawn mowers and messing with the gas and oil, I decided to try a battery powered mower. I researched them online and finally decided to try the Neuton 5.2. I ordered directly from Neuton which featured free shipping. I received the mower in less than a week - very fast delivery. It was easy to assemble - then I just charged up the battery and mowed the yard. I rent and the lot I mow isn't that large, but it has a steep hill, lots of dandelions and the lawn is uneven. The first cut wasn't the best, but the grass had gotten quite long. I mow once a week now and the Neuton is doing the job for me. It takes me around an hour to mow. I've never had to stop to recharge the battery. I am very happy with this product - not one complaint.

1 out of 5 stars HAD IT A MONTH AND WILL ONLY WORK FOR 5 MINUTES.   June 8, 2008

Run for the Hills! "THE $479.00 LAWN ORNAMENT"

It arrived quickly and assembled in a flash.

I charged it overnite as instructed and gave it a try.IT MOWED FOR 5 mins and QUIT.

Read the instructions and it indicated you may have to charge and run it down several times till it charges to full capacity.

Tried it TWO more times and same thing.Five minutes and QUIT.

I noticed that an electrical plug they call a KEY that inserts in the mower had its contacts burning so I called NEUTON and they were very helpful.

They said it was a problem with the PLUG not making firm contact with a circuit board in the mower, and they were aware of it "DAH".NOT SOMETHING THEY TELL YOU ON THEIR WEBSITE.

They sent a new plug but no board which is on back order. They even gave me the name of a repair shop that would replace the board FOR FREE.

OF COURSE I WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT THERE AND GO BACK AND PICK IT UP.For me this is an 85 mile round trip.

I'm still waiting for the part to arrive and still unable to use it.
In the end I will probably have to ship it back, and no doubt at my expense.

So far this has been a disaster.

If I every get it running I will write another review. At the moment it is a $479.00 LAWN ORNAMENT.

4 out of 5 stars Good Mower   May 28, 2008

I have owned this mower for about two months now. I have two large lawns including an area for my dog run which gets high sometimes because I don't mow every week. The major reason I considered buying an electric mower was that the gas rotary mowers I have owned always were hard to start after the Winter season. I saw an ad for the Neuton and a cordless electric seemed attractive. No cord to run over or move around.

RATING DETAILS
Here is where the Neuton earned points:

1) Its starts every time.
2) Its environmentally friendly. No exhaust and no noise.
3) Its lighter than my old steel gas mower (slightly).
4) No leaking fluids when you want to turn it over to clean or maintain the blade.
5) Not that I don't own and like many foreign produced items, but this is made in America (Vermont). It feels good to me to support our domestic market!

Here is where the Neuton lost a few points:

1) The trimmer attachment works, but its not really that manueverable. Keep your corded electric string trimmer and pass on the too expensive trimmer attachment.
2) It takes me two days to mow all my grass. The battery seems to last me about an hour and a half. Seriously consider buying the extra battery if you have a lot of lawn to cut.
3) If you expect this mower to be as robust as your gas rotary model, you will probably be disappointed. But since the gas mowers where I live no longer come with a variable throttle, you don't really loose that much power.

Over-all I am happy with the purchase.
