Amazon.com Review While plants, flowers, and insects naturally provide food for our feathered friends, a well-stocked oriole feeder encourages more frequent visits. Opus's egg-shaped feeder holds 32 ounces and provides four feeding stations, to allow as many orioles to dine as possible. Adjustable perches offer two different perch heights to accommodate all nine species of orioles. A patented bee guard keeps pests out and secures food. A convenient hanging hole permits owners to hang the feeder by a special stand or on tree branches. Opus even includes an oriole identification chart to inform bird enthusiasts. To attract orioles to the feeder, place it in a sheltered southeast location in the yard or garden. Orioles also enjoy dining on fresh oranges and grape or apple jelly. Keep the feeder stocked year-round to nourish any birds that linger through a cold winter, and help tired birds rebuild strength after the long flight north in spring. To deter pesky squirrels, hang the oriole feeder from tree branches as far from the trunk as possible and at least four feet above the ground. For best results, handwash the feeder with equal parts water and white vinegar--this will help protect birds from bacteria and disease. Avoid chemical cleaners that might poison birds. When shipped, this item weighs two pounds. --Jessica Reuling

Oriole nectar feeder May 23, 2007 J. K. Moore (Southern California, USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Orioles readily take nectar from my 8 oz. Perky-Pet Four Fountains hummingbird feeders, and can quickly empty them. Buying larger hummingbird feeders was not entirely satisfactory since all have feeding ports which exclude non-hummers. I got this Opus oriole feeder so the orioles would have their own large capacity feeder. My feeder has springy buttons in the nectar ports which act as bee guards. (Note: The image on this page differs slightly from the feeder I received.) Initially the orioles and hummers explored the feeder but were unable to figure out the bee guards. After a few days I removed the bee guards, which involved undoing a few screws, and thereafter both orioles and hummers used the feeder. The feeder disassembles into three parts: the clear plastic reservoir bottle and the two parts of the orange base. The bottom of the base houses the adjustable perches. If you submerge your feeder to clean it, this part will require some shaking and draining, but this is a minor matter. All parts of the base which touch the nectar are readily accessible for cleaning. This is a good feeder for those crunch times when a lot of nectar is being consumed, but the orioles really prefer the Perky-Pets. Finally, _I_ really prefer a glass reservoir and just couldn't give five stars to a feeder without one.
Orioles and Hummers August 26, 2006 M. Nushart (Prescott, AZ United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Unpacked it, filled it and hung it up. Had Orioles right away. This unit was a replacement for a another brand that allowed the Humming Birds to feed as well as the Orioles. The Hummers were confused and unable to feed from this one because of the bee guards. We disassembled the unit and removed the bee guards (bees aren't a significant problem in our area). Now everybody feeds! Nice unit. I would recommend it.
Looks great but no orioles ever came! July 12, 2007 Amazon Addict (USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this feeder from Target after seeing an oriole near our regular bird feeder last spring. It shipped quickly and was easy to set up once I bought some oriole food mix. I hung it as suggested in a southwest corner but never saw an oriole come near it! I gave it a few weeks but no luck so I moved it under a tree. Maybe I put it out too late in the season and missed the migrating males this year so I'll give it another try next year. I still have it up since it looks nice but it didn't seem to attract any orioles this year. I'd give it 2 stars but I'll give it through the summer and put it up early next spring and see if anything changes.
Oriole Feeder a Success in Baja August 29, 2007 H. Purkey (Baja Sur, Mexico) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these a year ago, when I noticed the Scott's Orioles trying to eat out of our hummingbird feeders. They were unsuccessful, as their beaks were too large. I found one of the Opus feeders online, and when it was installed in our yard, we had an Oriole invasion; both Scott's and Hooded Orioles congregated around it. One smart family even built a nest about 10' away from the feeder! It's easy to clean and fill, easy to assemble, and the birds love it. The only thing that might improve this feeder is if the reservoir was glass instead of plastic, but we're very happy with it.
Oriole feeder June 11, 2007 Debbie Olson (Iowa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Update:The Orioles will NOT feed from this feeder. I have lots of Orioles, the other feeders ran out for two days and they left because they would not eat from this feeder. I filled the ones back up that look like big oranges and they are feeding again. I believe they will not eat from this one because it does not have feeding station pegs for them to stand on while feeding and the others do. P.S. Humming birds will eat from the same orange shaped feeders with the Oriole necter food,in case you do not want to put both out or do not have room for both kinds of feeders.
