Amazon.com Review When barbecuing, the chef always risks burning that carefully-seasoned rump roast to a crisp. Whether a minor household emergency calls the chef away from duty or the grill heats up with unusual speed, blackened hot dogs and charred veggie kabobs happen. Thus the barbecue aficionado must do his or her best to show vigilance over the open flame, keeping the eyes on the juicy, tender prize. This task becomes particularly challenging during the winter months when daylight ceases before the typical workday ends. The barbecue specialists at Weber recognize the need for visibility in grilling and the overall poor quality of built-in barbecue lights. To combat these challenges, Weber created their Grill Out handle light. The handle light features water- and heat-resistant nylon housing, reinforced with glass for increased durability. Three LED bulbs illuminate the grill, activated by a tilt-switch sensor when the grill lid rises. A manual on/off button also ignites the light. The LED bulbs shine for a lengthy 10,000-hour lifetime while three AAA batteries power the light for approximately 20 hours. Weber designed the handle light for Weber Genesis and Summit grill models, though the two included mounting brackets also may accommodate other grills with circular thermoplastic or round stainless-steel handles. Mounting instructions and hardware accompany the light, but batteries must be purchased separately. This item weighs 12 ounces upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

Circular Handles Only January 15, 2006 JAH (Bonaire, GA United States) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
Although this is a nifty little item, my Weber grill was not a recent enough model for this to work with. The light comes with two handle adapters, but both are for circular style handles (mine is rectangular). The tilt sensor works well. In addition, you can just use the easy to access on/off button. The light is not extremely bright and is a bit yellowish, but it will give you enough to grill by.
Essential for grilling after dark! August 27, 2006 Kevin Nicholls (Milford, MI) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I wasn't sure how well three LED's would provide enough light for my Genesis B, but this product really impressed me. I no longer need to wedge myself as close as I can get to my porch light and attract every bug in the neighborhood to my back yard (and food!). The tilt-activated on/off works flawlessly, and installing it took minutes. It looks great on the grill handle, and battery life is really good, too. I bought this in May (when it cost $10 more!) and haven't needed to replace the batteries yet. And I ususally use this about 3 times a week. I'm actually kicking around buying one as a spare, just in case.
the fun won't last June 5, 2007 J. Elizondo 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
All of the above reviews are correct. It is nifty, it iluminates the grill quite well, its a great gadget, etc. BUT I've had mine for eight months now, and by the third month, it started to loose its grip on the handle (because of the heat I guess), so much that it will not hold its own weight and slides so the light will not iluminate the grill anymore. When you close the lid, this thing is supposed to turn itself off automatically, it did that at first, now it stays dimly lit, so everytime I close the lid when grilling I have to turn it off, this kind of ruins the whole auto-shut-off feature. Please note that my grill is always under a roofed terrace and always with the plastic cover when not used. This product is not up to Weber quality standards, not even close.
Get out of the dark January 26, 2007 Klosie 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with this light, it fits on my Weber Summit perfectly, installation was relatively easy and only needed a screw driver. When installing you do need to be aware of where you are positioning the light so that it doesn't hit the control knobs on the grill. I haven't had to change the batteries on it yet, but as I recall it isn't too hard to change them. The lights appear to be LED's so they should never burn out on you. It should light up the 4-burner Weber Summit pretty well, but since I have the 6-burner model I'm considering getting a second one. It does have a sensor in it so when you open the lid it turns on and when you close it, the light dims for a couple of seconds and then shuts off. It is very convenient, and way better than dragging a flashlight out side to check your food. A couple of cautions: Make sure that this light will fit your model, I've heard of people getting this light and not realizing that it is designed for specific models. I would also bring your attention to the fact that in the instructions it says to remove the batteries if you are not going to use this light for a while, I imagine that this is to prevent the batteries from becoming corroded.
Great in a way November 3, 2006 K. Jonsson (Iceland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This light is great, only thing is that when the lid is closed it does not shut down compleatly so it keeps on draining the battery...
