Works! September 9, 2005 green Husker (North Texas, USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Living in north Texas, I'm an unfortunate summer flunkie: the sun hates me, but mosquitoes love me. Hmmm. When used according to the package directions, (and this includes following the Mosquito Magnet placement and maintenance instructions as well,) this new lure works very well at attracting Asian Tiger mosquitoes, if they're the dominant breed in your area. You'll know if you have these mosquitoes: they are aggressive biters, both daytime and night. They can be identified by the white "stripes" on their legs, and are winter hardy in temperate regions. This lure should be replaced at each propane tank change, as the gel evaporates over time and will become ineffective when dried out. Overall, a great boon for reclaiming the back yard!
It Works as Advertised December 23, 2005 Shugman (Maryland, USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
We purchased a Mosquito Magnet about three years ago, and it never seemed to do particularly well reducing the number of bites my wife and I received when trying to use our deck or backyard. The Octenol attractant that MM used not only didn't attract the little bloodsuckers infesting our yard, it almost seemed to be repelling them. Our area used to be infested with regular woodland mosquitoes, but in the past few years, the nasty, aggressive Asian Tiger mosquitoes have pretty much entirely replaced our friendly (by comparison) local breed. We would have done just about anything to get rid of the Tiger mosquitoes that were active 24/7 and never seemed to give up, but I don't want to turn my yard into a toxic waste dump of pesticides. The new Lurex did a decent job of attracting the Tigers to the trap. In fact, the MM was swarming with them after a few hours. Now our problem was that the MM's fan just didn't generate enough suction to entrap much of the swarm. The Tiger mosquitoes were swarming dense enough around the MM that I didn't want to get near it to empty the trap net without wearing a beekeeper's outfit. So, yes, the Lurex-3 attractant worked exactly as advertised, but as a complete system, I'm still a bit underwhelmed with the MM until they install a fan with a higher CFM rate.
Definate must for Asian tiger mosquitos August 2, 2006 C. Pegher (Alexandria, VA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought my Mosquito magnet last year with out the lurex and it caught nothing. I changed the location as per the instructions but still nothing. Finally I stumbled on to this poduct while searching for something else and now I won't use the mosquito magnet without it. I use both attractants in my magnet to be on the safe side. It does work, but it takes time to find that right location.I live in The DC area. This lure lets me go out in the back yard again.
Dont use in Northern US June 7, 2006 M. Hicks (Albany NY) 4 out of 11 found this review helpful
My 1 star is actually for Amazon.com. I have no idea how this product performs. I guess that if you look at the back of the box, it has a map of the United States and the bottom half uses this product. The top half uses Octenol, a different chemicle. I wish Amazon would have told me this because now I am stuck in New York with a product that will not do me any good. Amazon wants me to pay for return shipping, and will deduct the original "free" shipping charges, all because of their mistake. 1 star for amazon.
It worked without problem July 11, 2006 M. Arbatli (Mobile, AL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Everyday it catches 50-60 mosquitos (75% regular 25% Asian tiger), Obviously mosquito population is decreased in our back yard because we are not having mosquito bites any more. I am using Lurex3-OD-3 for asian tiger, this attractant is working for other kind of mosquitos as well. Mosquito magnet placement is very important. You have to read the placement explanations very well.
