This item is not so much a pet bed as a mat, and a small one at that. If you are considering it for a dog, before buying it, you may want to measure how much space your dog takes up when resting. For a single cat, or even two, the size is good.
The top side is a fluffy surface. The reverse is plain, with closely spaced small dots of rubberized material. To some degree, it stays in place--especially if placed on top of a non-slippery surface, such as an upholstered piece of furniture. On something slippery, it tends to buckle and/or wrinkle as the animal moves about.
DOWN SIDE: There is no real insulating layer between the pet and a surface such as a tile/concrete/other hard surface floor.
UP SIDE: This mat is easily transported. If you want to define a place for a small dog to stay when you visit friends or family, this may serve your purpose. (We used ours during obedience training classes.) It washes easily on the gentle cycle.
OTHER USES: Works as a liner for a kennel. (Use a folder towel underneath as padding for comfort.) Also useful as an easy-to-wash inside liner for a cushioned pet bed.

Our cats aren't into this at all. The only use I've found is to add a little lining to the bottom of their transport and to put it on top of their heating pads on those cold, cold days when I actually turn the heating pad on.
The cats prefer comforters, blankets, carpets, cat houses, cat beds, our laps, etc. to this. There is no benefit to having it.
Also, we have two cats. It's the right size for the smaller cat. the bigger cat is a bit too big for it.

This mat is very soft and after hundreds of washes it is still very soft and fluffy enough. I don't know about dogs or cats but my bunnies love them. It's a perfect carrier liner too. I would recommend it.

My cats love this mat. It's more of a mat than a bed, and I use it to line their crates. They are excited by the very soft texture and go into the crate willingly, even when we're going to the vet. at home, i store them on top of the bookshelves, making it a little nicer to be up there (since they're going to be up there anyway). I have 2 mats and I am planning to buy 2 more so that each cat can have one.

Teddy loves this. It is furry like and very soft. I'm glad he didn't chew it up. I thought he would but he didn't. He doesn't mind going to bed since he has this nice soft furry bed for himself. It also has some rubber slip resistant on the bottom side and is machine washable and dryer safe on a lower temp.
