3 out of 5 stars Great except one significant flaw   October 2, 2007

I loved this carrier - it looks very trendy and received lots of compliments. Also it was quite comfortable for my cat. But unfortunately, there was one flaw in the construction - what holds the carrier up are two thin plastic rods (under fabric) and they are very easy to break. A couple of times my cat stood up on the edges of the bag as she was coming out, and this quickly broke the rods. (my cat weighs only 8 lbs., and to test the rod strength myself after it had broke in several places, I found it took minimal pressure from my hand to break it again) As a result of the breaks in the plastic, the carrier is completely collapsed on top. This is after only two months of use. What a disappointment because it is otherwise perfect. If you don't use this everyday, just once and a while, I'd still recommend it, but I can't recommend it for frequent use.

5 out of 5 stars cat carrier for the spoiled kitty   June 30, 2007

I'm not crazy about the color but I like everything else about this carrier. We wanted something a little larger than normal because we travel with our cat regularly and want her to be comfortable. This bag has plenty of room for our little 7.5 lb kitty. There are two ways to open the carrier, one on top and one from the front. This is a handy feature for us because we like to open the carrier in the car and make her more comfortable. There are small pockets to be able to put her laser light and a couple of her toys. It is also helpful having the choice of two handles, especially when I am carrying luggage with me.

5 out of 5 stars Great Cat Carrier   July 22, 2007

I looked at many in the pet shops within the same price range and none came close to the quality as Jakks Cat Carrier. Plenty of ventilation, strong straps and handle. You also have two modes of putting your cat in the carrier; either unzip the top or unzip the front...which is great if you have a resistant cat! It is also very lightweight.

5 out of 5 stars The perfect cat carrier   July 17, 2007

I am very please with the Jakks Pacific Cat Carrier, its just what was needed. I use it to transport two kittens to the vets and I think it will do for when they become cats. I especially like it as I can use the seat belt to secure it in the car.

4 out of 5 stars Good - with a few problems   June 3, 2008

I bought two of these carriers - because of the reviews and because they looked to be a slightly updated copy of a Sherpa carrier I've had and enjoyed using for years. And because I have two more kitties that now need safe and comfortable carriers.

There were a few problems with one of the carriers and some differences between these and my older Sherpa carrier:

The zippers are a bit cheaper - the top zipper on one of the carriers had a slider that didn't close the teeth correctly, so they came open with the slightest touch. I squeezed the slider a bit with a pair of pliers and bent it enough that it started working correctly. All of the other zippers worked fine.

The two plastic rods that support the top have been getting some attention in a few of these reviews and are, as mentioned, quite cheap and easily breakable. Both rods in one of the carriers were "warped" and wouldn't straighten out. Luckily, they were easily replaceable. I came up with an excellent solution - one I wish the manufacturer would adopt. I had some fiberglass tent pole sections from an old tent. Each section was the exact length of the plastic rods and fit perfectly into the rod sleeves. These are very strong, don't easily flex, but will without breaking. Using these, the top will support the weight of either (or both) of my 10-pound kitties.

One of the floor boards was warped badly. I ended up having to break it and re-glue it in order to get it to lay flat. This was the same carrier with the bad zipper and the warped plastic rods, by the way. Perhaps this was a return or represents a bad day at the factory. The other carrier was in excellent shape.

The fluffy pad, while a bit thin, attaches firmly to the floor board and doesn't slide around. The floor board can be fixed to the bottom of the carrier with included Velcro attachments. This is a good idea and is another improvement over my Sherpa carrier.

Even with the minor problems I had with one of the two carriers, I'd recommend this carrier - It's a great step up from the plastic/metal-door carriers. The top opening is a wonderful time saver if you have a cat that just won't go through the front opening (like my older cat).
