Product Description
It's so simple, it's ingenious. To clean you simply roll the top to the floor and return. The internal mechanism deposits the clumped waste into the waste tray, which you then slide out and empty. Your cat can always have clean litter. Saves you money too--no more scoops, liners or filters to buy. Clean litter is never thrown away. Great covered pan design gives privacy to your cat and prevents mess. Works only with clumping litter.

5 out of 5 stars BEST IDEA since cat litter   December 29, 2004

I would describe this cat box with words like- LOVE_LOVE- FUN- easy, ETC ETC....
When I bought the first one, I saved the receipt. I thought for $30 I am taking it back if it doesnt work like a dream. I also gave it to my mom as XMAS gift, so I wanted to make her test it out. When we first got Ragdolls cats for each other as XMAS gifts, we agreed on loving the cats but hating the cat box.
We even tried the automatic cleaning ones and took them back.
This cat box would be worth $100 in my opinion. I cant believe how easy it is to use, less then 10 seconds to cleans the litter box, no removing the lid. Throw away the scoops as you will never need it once you own this cat box. No smell, no bags, no mess. Even for someone with a bad back it would only require bending over. You roll it upside down, and the cleaning is done.
You slide out the drawer and the solied litter is ready to goto the trash can. The only thing I could think people may need to adjust themselves to is using minimal amount of litter. Just fill the main section with 3-4 inches of litter. Dont try to even it out to fill up the right side of the box.
Since I have gotten one for my mom, I purchased one. 4 other people I have demonstrated my cat box too, have also purchased one and they say they love it!!!
Go get one today!!

GOING ON 1 Year- I still love this cat box. I have encouraged at least 10 people to purchase one this year. Important note I have to mention, reguarding the clips that hold this together.
I have never had a problem with my clips, I have only unclipped mine about 4 times to really clean the grate inside. 3 people I know called and said they had a mess going when cleaning Omega. I figured it out for them instantly, at the time of thier purchase Of Omega, someone stole the clip!! We went to 2 PETCO's asking for the clips to hold the Omega together, none of the Omegas in thier store had clips. Be careful whn you go to purchase and make sure the Omega has 3 clips. Shoppers must read the reviews on Amazon and help themselves to extra clips when they go to purchase this item:)

4 out of 5 stars Use this box with World's Best Cat Litter...   April 6, 2005

Many cat owners buy the Omega Paw self-cleaning litter box because it's more hygienic than scooping a box yourself, but they don't use the right kind of litter with the box to truly maximize its potential.

World's Best Cat Litter (Extra Strength Multicat Formula) is what I use. It's made from corn, so it's non-toxic. In addition, it's also safe to flush. What this means for Omega Paw owners is that they can put this premium clumping cat litter into their box, and then when it's time to roll the box and pull out the waste tray, the contents of the waste tray can go directly into a toilet. No need for plastic bags or potentially smelly waste receptacles. It's the most hygienic way to handle a litter box that I have ever discovered. I highly recommend this combination.

The Omega Paw box itself gets 4 stars because the plastic tabs are a bit weak. If you only open the tabs once a month or so to do deep cleaning of the box and replace the litter, they shouldn't break too soon. If you're opening the box every day or so to add litter, you may have problems. The way I add litter to my Omega Paw is to fill the removeable tray with as much litter as I just scooped out, then use the tray to dump the litter in the front opening. This saves me from having to take the top off the box, which in turn keeps the weak clips from breaking.

Also, World's Best Cat Litter weighs a lot less than typical clumping cat litter, which should save the box from undue strain when rolling.

5 out of 5 stars For those who don't like this--just use it right   July 28, 2005

If you put the box together right, the loose litter flows through the screen as you roll the box to the right; keep rolling the box and the clumps go on over the top of the screen into the open top of the collection box. Ingeniously simple! (For those who think the CLUMPS need to go through the screen: look at it again. It's probably just a matter of flipping the screen so that it goes from the edge of the collection box downward to the bottom, not upward. Leaving the top of the collection box uncovered, at the top edge of the screen.)

Some hints: 1) When you roll the box upright again, give it a good shake to the right, or roll it part way to the left and back upright, to bring the litter back into the potty chamber. 2) If your floor space is limited, scoot the box leftward as you roll it to the right. As for the litter, there is no magic height the litter has to be in the potty chamber; I don't know how some could find this a problem. 3) To fill the box, tilt it backward and pour in the litter. To empty it, tilt it forward over a trash receptacle.

As for the quality of the box, it's just fine; any better quality and it would be too heavy for me to use, being up in my years. The latches that hold the top and bottom of the box together could be stronger, but face it, how often will you need to open it up? After being in use for two months, there is nothing sticking to the box yet to clean up, and so no reason to open it--maybe this won`t be true with all litters. Based on recommendations, I have only used World`s Best clumping litter; it lasts a l-o-n-g time because not much is caught up in the clumps, and what is left is still clean, not like some I`ve used, where fouled or wet bits fall away from the clumps. The regular litter boxes get dirty above the litter line, but that hasn't happened yet with the Omega boxes--must have something to do with the shape...

If the latches don't latch smoothly, don't put undue pressure on them, just check that they are lined up straight and the box rims are tightly together, and look to see if there is a little tag of plastic keeping the latches from moving well, and take it off with a paring knife or pocket knife.

I got the bigger size from PetSmart for my larger cat. I left the old litter box there until he got used to the new one, but he never again set foot in the old box! I got a regular size box, from PetCo, for my smaller, blind kitty so she could have it in her favorite area, but my big cat uses that regular-size one just as often as he uses the bigger one!

I LOVE it!

4 out of 5 stars Outstanding, but very cheaply made, so prepare to fix it   January 20, 2005

First, buy this thing right away. As long as you have room to roll it about 3/4 over and then back to the starting point, there is no better way to clean cat litter. This thing is an absolute great product, hands down. I'd probably give up the cat before I'd give up this box.

But the top comes off using little clips that break easily. If that happens, go to home depot and buy some screws, washers and wing nuts to use in place of the clips that break off. The screws and such cost me about $5.

And fear not if your cat likes large boxes: the actual space for the cat in this box is absolutely tiny (1/2 of the space is reserved for the operation of the thing) and my cat prefers it to the largest size enclosed box you can buy. Before this box, he refused to use any box that wasn't huge. Now, he loves this tiny thing. Go figure.

It comes in three pieces (with a fourth piece, a little drawer, as part of the top). And no instructions. So here they are:

Put the base on the ground, lay the small piece (it's sort of a ramp looking thing - half solid, half slotted) on the top of the base, so that the solid part covers the top of the right half of the base, and the slatted part angles down towards the bottom of the base. Very important: The bottom of the slotted part fits into a little raised tab on the bottom of the base to hold it in place. You'll see a notch for the upper flat part of the ramp and that's where it goes: you just rest it on the top of the base. Pour cat litter on the left side of the base, so that it fills to about 4-5" of the left side of the base. You can use any clumping litter, but it has to clump for the thing to work,

Pull the clips on the top, back in the opposite direction of the arrows, and put the top on so that it covers the base (and the small ramp-looking thing). Slide the 3 clips in the direction of the arrows until they lock (or break! ha ha).

You only need to unclip the thing to add litter or to deep clean it with the hose about once per month. I bought a big scoop, like the kind you scoop flour with in the bulk section of your grocery, and I use it to refill the litter: I just toss it in the hole the cat would go in, and so now I only need to unclip it once per month.

After the cat poops in the thing, lift the left side up, as if you are rolling it over, end over end, but you don't really want to roll it completely over onto it's top: stop about 3/4 of the way there - about the 2 o'clock position. You'll hear the fresh litter slide through the slats, but the solid pieces will roll over the ramp along the flat part and into the drawer. Then roll it back to a little PAST where you started, to distribute the litter from under the ramp on the right back to the left side. Then set it down where you started. Pull open the drawer and let the waste slide into a bag. The whole process takes about 10 seconds once you've done it before.

This thing is a miracle. Don't buy anything else. It's a 5 star product, but I gave it 4 stars because it's too cheaply made. But don't let that stop you from buying it. It's by far the best solution out there. By far.

1 out of 5 stars not so great   May 24, 2005

After reading rave reviews of this box on epinions and amazon.com, we purchased one (the large size) and found that the box had more problems than solutions. The reviews on amazon touch on some of the problems we have had, such as breaking plastic snaps, litter sneaking out through the seams as you roll the box, litter sticking to the sides and bottom, and trouble with maintaining just the right level of litter to solve the problems, etc. We tried one of the reviewer's suggestions of adding bolts and wing nuts to secure the top while rolling, but since the sifting mechanism cannot accommodate loose stools or stuck urine, you're going to need to take the top off frequently and more easily than can be done once it's bolted. We currently have three additional conventional covered litter boxes in use which, used with the right litter (World's Best--great stuff!), are much easier to clean than this one, and don't require the extra floor space to "roll" them. We bought the box through RadioFence.com and called to ask if their "money back guarantee" ("If you are dissatisfied with any product for any reason") would apply here but of course it would not if the box has been defecated in. (how else would you know if it works?) DO NOT BUY THIS BOX IF YOUR CAT SUFFERS FROM IBS or ever has any kind of diarreah or loose stool--it will stick all over the grate and get inside of the mechanism. Our five indoor-only cats are all very clean, and some of them just didn't want to use this box, possibly because of the sifting mechanism taking up so much of the interior. In the end, the box takes up more room to operate, makes more mess, and is more difficult to clean than regular boxes so we are just going to have to take the loss ($44.99 with mat on RadioFence.com) and buy another regular box to replace this one.

Bottom Line:

More hassle to clean than scooping of conventional box. Requires floor space to perform "roll." Top breaks off when rolling, must be taken off to clean out what sifter misses, such as soft stools and urine that get stuck.
