5 out of 5 stars Boundary WIre Break Locator   May 13, 2007

I got tired of paying $75 every time someone cut the invisible dog fence. So I bought this product. I only used it the one time but it worked well and came with good instructions. The most difficult part is finding a way to hook up the unit to the invisible fence system. I stuck nails into the wire clip and used alligator clips which do not come with the unit. I would love to have a set of connectors. I may go to radio shack and see what they have next time I need to use the unit.

This has been one of my most frustating purchases ever and I have done many. First, they provide a hand radio for detecting the break. I live in a suburb of a large city and I receive stations at all times. I did as recommended and used a digital radio and tried at a different time of day. Next, the base blew a fuse and smoke was actually coming out of the unit (no exaggeration). Customer service said they would send me a replacement. They never did. I called back and they said it is on backorder and to keep checking.

Shortly after installing our radio fence, the alarm indicated a break. Our yard is an acre and a half and I didn't know how I was going to find it. My son and I used this product as instructed and found the break quickly. We repaired the break and now my cats can go outside again. For anyone who installed a Radio Fence themselves, this is the product you need if the wire breaks.

Instructions were clear, but if you live in the city or even near a large city, you'll have a hard time finding a empty frequency at the bottom of the radio band, to hear the two frequencies. It took about an hour to figure out the tones (frequencies) from the radio stations. But after the initial trial, I found two breaks within 10 minutes. One other improvement is the radio needs to have a headphone jack. We live on a rural road where vehicles are driving by at high speed and you sometimes cannot hear the radio. Either way, this was a useful product, and I rate it highly.

Device worked great...We live near Minneapolis and get a big overlapping signal from a local radio station but there is definitely a change in signal tone when you wave the AM radio past the wire. I found three breaks in my 1500ft long loop. I would never been able to find them without such a device.
