Love this Software! August 30, 2006 Sandy (Albuquerque, NM) 53 out of 54 found this review helpful
I run XP and have tried a wide variety of antivirus software. I still like my separate components rather than a security suite. I left Norton because of numerous javascripting errors. I tried Bit Defender 9--not a bad program. Just not as quick and complete as KAV 6. My computer runs better than ever with KAV installed (I also run a third party firewall). Since installing KAV, my firewall hasn't alerted me to a single intrusion attempt. Seems like good news--and I certainly hope it is! I feel pretty safe running KAV. I like what independent reviewers/testing sites have to say about it. And things don't continually complain or mess up. The only "problem" I've come up against is that when running all the proactive defenses, including the registry guard, it came up with a message tagging IE 7, Beta 3, as a possible danger. And, given IE's track record--it might be. ;) I got very friendly and patient help from the Kaspersky Support Forum hyperlinked from the software itself. Other than that, it's really been "install and forget." Things are running great...in fact, my antispyware seems to be having to clean up less, too. I definitely recommend this software.
This is the one you want! July 20, 2006 J. Ingram (batesville, ms United States) 29 out of 33 found this review helpful
At last, an anti-virus that's easy to install and does it's job quietly and without annoying messages...for my money, forget the others and go with this one...it's what you want!
The One To Get January 30, 2007 J. White 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I downloaded a trial version of this from the companys website. I couldn't be more pleased after "experiencing" the awful Norton Antivirus 2007 which slowed my computer to a crawl. Kaspersky was able to detect spyware and adware on my machine that Norton 2007 had totally missed. It also found a peice of obnoxious malware missed by Norton. And the best part of it is that Kaspersky allows you to extensively customize the settings you need for your particular computer. I found that "low" setting worked great in my situation and no performance hit is noticeable. Just be sure to uninstall Any other anti-virus program before installing this.
Good - Once you get past the software conflicts June 4, 2007 Dathan L. Choy (Eugene, OR, USA) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
Previously running AVG, 5 different versions of Norton, McAfee, and various other anti-virus, KAV 6.0 is pretty good. It catches stuff they didn't, it consumes relatively less resources, is faster on the scan, and better overall performance then anything I've ever tried before in eight years. However, the software does as warned before, have conflicts. After installation, I couldn't connect to the internet because KAV had a conflict with a sygate firewall. No where in the manual was a warning about software conflicts of any type. I had to restore my computer to a previous restore date to get back my connection, even after exiting sygate. After I found the problem, I uninstalled my firewall, reinstalled KAV and found I had some other problems. IE would exit the second it opened, I couldn't watch steaming video on Firefox, System Restore didn't open, windows media would quit if clicked to 'now playing' and various other software programs had massive problems that I didn't have before installation of KAV. After several days of searching, I found that I had to run several reg edit dll changes to bring things back to normal (I was using AVG as a last resort backup). I contacted Tech Support (there's no phone number despite their manual saying 24 hour 365 day phone support) via email and they still haven't got back to me, it's been a while. So the product itself is good, it's just its early effects on my system were beyond appalling and nowhere near business acceptable and tech support simply doesn't exist. If you can figure out the problems yourself, get it, otherwise stay away and this is from a user who encountered the nightmare that was Norton 2006.
Non existent tech support January 7, 2007 Robert Sisson (Honolulu) 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
I installed this product a week ago. I just removed it from my computer today and installed Bitdefender v10. After I installed Kaspersky antivirus (KAV), I continuously got the blue screen of death (BSOD). I ran it on my Dell XPS with 2 MB RAM, 3+ chip speed, 220 hard drive, etc. I have never had any software problems or conflicts before. Kaspersky claims 365/24/7 support, but this is misleading. There is no telephone support, and no chat support. Their method of support is hyperlinked from the software to a web-site input. You type in the textbox and then you might get an email reply. It took 3 days for them to reply to the first input. They replied a total of 3 times in seven days. I provided them with sysinfo files, logs and pages of detailed information. Each email they sent was less than 3 sentences. One of which was as follows: "It looks like you have ZoneAlarm Pro 6.5.737.000 installed on your machine. The PRO version has the anti-virus portion. Please uninstall the Anti-Virus portion from your computer and reinstall Kaspersky." ZA pro doesn't have antivirus! How could I uninstall this portion? Before you buy this software I highly recommend you Google "Kaspersky" and "BSOD" or "conflict issues" or "installation problems." I have since installed Bitdefender. No more BSOD. Excellent protection -often rated higher than Kaspersky. And most importantly, I did a test of their support & was able to chat with a live support rep within 30 seconds! Further Bitdefender is about half the price for 2 years & 2 computers.
