Useful especially for adding a new account for a family member. December 4, 2007 Mitchell M. Tse (Antioch, CA United States) 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
I bought this for my son, since I had only bought him WoW without the expansion. With the assumption that you've decided you want to play WoW, all the way through to lvl 70, this is the pack for you. You get WoW and expansion, which would cost 50 bucks if bought separately. You also get two strategy guides, but the strategy guide for the expansion (see my review for it here World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Official Strategy Guide (World of Warcraft)) is terribly lacking, so we're really looking at one valuable guide, one crappy guide. What you also get, and not even the box mentions this, is the game on DVD! Oh, how many times I've installed and reinstalled the original WoW on multiple computers at home and at my friends place, swapping disks. Well, no more! Unless you were lucky and bought the original Collector's edition World of Warcraft Collector's Edition and World Of Warcraft Burning Crusade Collector's Edition, you're stuck with 4 CDs each instead of 1 DVD. Overall, I would buy (in fact, I did).
Battlechest is good value for your money November 1, 2007 Jaldis (Newburgh, NY USA) 29 out of 32 found this review helpful
If you are thinking about starting World of Warcraft (WoW) then it won't be long before you will want the upgrade burning crusades so I recomend just getting the Battle chest because you will save money and get an additional two books. If you are unsure about playing the game you can always download the 10 day free trial software to see if you like the game but be warned that this is a huge game and will take a long time to download (>4 gig.
Suprisingly addictive December 29, 2007 K. Smith (ME, United States) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I got this after doing a free 10 day trial from Blizzard. After about 3-4 days of the trial I was pretty hooked and decided it was worth the money to get the full version of the game. (Very limited differences in the trial version so it's definitely worth testing out before you buy the full version.) I'm not usually into long play games like this, but after seeing a bunch of different things about the game (including a very funny South Park episode) I decided to check into it a bit further. I will say the game is much more fun if you can play with people you know, but you don't have to. I've found almost every person I've met in the game to be very helpful and understanding to new players so it makes it easy to get into the game and get what you want out of it. I'd encourage people to definitely do the trial software and see how you like it, but I'm confident most people that play video games will find some portion of this entertaining.
A decent game.. Doesn't really break new ground.. February 26, 2008 Sean M. Walters (Apalachin, NY, USA) 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
As with most MOGs in this genre, like Dungeons and Dragons online, Runescape, Rappelz and a some others, WOW doesn't really break new ground. Ultimately, the game boils down to fighting stuff so that you can get better gear to fight more stuff. The graphics are amazing, but the fact that your character really has no effect on the in game environment aside from the fact that you can gank other players gets old after a while. I have a character that is almost level 50 and I've gotten tired of the same old grind. Players of the game are diverse, and joining a guild helps alot with levelling. Sometimes the guild can help you out with the difficulties of say, purchasing a mount for your character to ride on. Yet, like any on-line community, WOW also has its share of jerks. While the world can be beautiful to adventure in, and visually, some of the vistas that WOW provides are stunning, the interaction with the world isn't any different than other games in the genre. When you're on a dungeon quest, sometimes you have to rush through reading the backstory of a quest that is within the dungeon itself because several in the group want to move on. Because of the extreme amount of ganking that goes on in WOW, its best if you can travel in a group most of the time to dissuade any would be gankers. WOW isn't like Fallout where some of the decisions you can make in the game actually affects the outcome of the story. Ultimately it boils down to fighting critters and other players and getting better stuff to fight tougher players and critters. The books provide some assistance for first time players to WOW, but what really helps are the maps. However, it would have been nicer if the Alliance and Horde locations were made more distinguishable on each map. The Battlechest is a great buy for newcomers to WOW. The game, the expansion, and the Strat Guides are a great deal. For the same price of just purchasing WOW at my local electronics store, I was able to purchase the Battlechest. Quite a deal. With the visually stunning environments, I can see why WOW is such a popular game. However, for me personally, the game gets repetitive after a while.
Awesome gift set! October 15, 2007 LovingChii (California) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is the best deal if you want to get someone started on WoW as a gift for any occasion! I love the idea that it has 2 of the strategy guides and both sets of the game. I just wished they threw in an extra dungeon guide or pre-paid game card. :P
