Product Description Celebrate and commemorate ten years of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft with Tomb Raider: Anniversary, a new action adventure inspired by the original Tomb Raider video game, one of the greatest action adventure games of all time. Relive the original Tomb Raider enhanced with the latest technology. Lara Croft's latest action adventure uncovers lost worlds, retrieve ancient artifacts and unlock the secrets of the past.
To celebrate and commemorate Tomb Raider and Lara's Anniversary the developers went back to where it all began, taking inspiration from the original game to create a new Tomb Raider gameplay experience. Everything about Tomb Raider: Anniversary is new. The ability to render thousands of polys with multiple semitransparent textures has given the game a huge graphical overhaul, but it's much, much more than that. Lara's movements have developed dramatically since the original; she has her latest fluid movement set, plus new Adrenalin combat modes, the ability to perch and her grapple. Enjoy new physics - which the first game couldn't do, creating all kinds of new possibilities for mind-bending puzzles. The adventure begins when Lara is hired by a powerful syndicate to retrieve a mythical object called the Scion. As Lara searches ancient tombs and isolated worlds that have lain undisturbed for thousands of years, she discovers that she is not alone. Not only has she awoken their fearsome guardians but there are others desperate to learn the Scion's dark secrets. Yes, it runs on the MacBook...if... March 28, 2008 Peter M. Ackarey (Chester, NH USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have a new MacBook 2.2 Core 2 Duo with the GMA X3100 graphics chip in it, and the game runs just fine. The only time it slows down a bit is when you enter a large portion of a map and it has to dump it all into the memory all at once, like when you first enter the field before the T-Rex battle. The game will slow down a bit for a couple of seconds then pick right back up after the map is loaded. Of course, you can futz with the graphic options to minimize the effect of that happening, but I like cool graphics, so I'm not going to!
great game controls not so good. October 24, 2008 John Zelewsky (Chicago) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really enjoy this game. Have had no issues running it on my macbook pro. The only drawback is the controls. I am playing this with a game pad. I thought that the controls would be similar to other versions of TR I have played. It makes it challenging and frustrating at times.
TR Anniversary - 4.5 stars / 5.5 stars - read on as to why... October 26, 2008 Robert Mullins (Illinois) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am still playing TR-Anniversary, so here's my thoughts at this point. The graphics are absolutely amazing. I have played every single TR for Mac since the first and it's hard to believe how detailed they are from what they once were (at the time, I used to think they were amazing then, but now, WOW). ~ I can't wait till the next TR becomes available for Mac! ~ For those who have played TR before, the plot will be familiar. The storyline may also be familiar. I have two main criticisms... I highly recommend playing the Manor first... Get used to the new controls (which are customisable as before), but more importantly, get used to Lara's movements. I find her movements frustrating to get used to, such as her direction of movement in-conjunction with the direction in which she faces. It's progress though and takes some getting used too. Lara is much faster moving than previously where you could be more precise with her movements, such as jumps and walking (note: in Walk mode she will now fall off cliffs, so be careful). I really miss the Look mode as I enjoyed investigating. I will also add, her foes are also faster moving, but having said that she seems to run & swim slower and doesn't jump as high as before, which actually makes her appear to be more real. Having said that, interactions with her surroundings are again, WOW. For example, when Lara moves objects, they move in 3D, as in reality and don't follow a grid-like pattern. Picking up objects is easy (I remember a previous game where it was a bit of a precise issue). Lara has some really awesome movements which she has either, never had before or are so vastly improved. I give TR Anniversary 5 stars because 4.5 stars is not available. I am deducting .5 of a star for adjusting to her new movements as noted above and I give 5.5 stars to the graphics, the detail, her interactions with her surroundings, her new moves and everything else. I'll say it again, I can't wait for the next TR for Mac !!!
Revamps Mac Gaming Platform February 21, 2008 niknyce (new york city, NY USA) This is the most impressive game I have seen to date. The graphics were outstanding when played on the 8C MacPro with NVIDIA Quadro FX. It will blow you away. Intel GMA NOT supported. I recommend 512MB GDDR3 or more.
Works great, even for Intel GMA February 23, 2008 Gregory T. Golinsky (Pennsylvania, US) Even with the graphics cards found in MacBooks and Mac Minis, this game works great. Simply lower the gfx settings slightly. It still looks beautiful, and runs smooth. I recommend it to anyone who's enjoyed the series in the past, or someone interested in the franchise.
