3 out of 5 stars Great Selection of types, but a resource hog.   July 27, 2000

This is a great package, which includes many diffrent styles of solitaire games. It is done in a rather fun style, and the inlcuded manual is not bad. The program itself is responsive, and with intuitive interface. There is only one downside to this. This is rather a resource hog, on both memory, and CPU, especially if you are playing the accompanying music. (You can turn it off if you want to play your own, or click, and drag cards in silence.) Just keep in mind that there won't be much being done in background, while you are running this, especially if your computer is older. If you do not plan to do anything else while playing solitaire this is more than adequate package. (Just don't expect to do compiles in the background, since they would take rather long, especially if your machine is not the bleeding edge technology. So if you just want to amuse yourself, this will do fine. If you want to use this instead of twiddling your thumbs, while you are waiting for something computing intensive tofinish, then this isn't for you.

My family and I have played Eric's Ultimate Solitaire on the Macintosh for years... and it's a great game! Recently, I've started building Linux machines to give to my family and was very happy to find out that this classic is now available for Linux as well. This solitaire game is the only one I know that implements the correct rules for Casino Klondike and keeps people from cheating. It also contains the old standby that most people know, Klondike. This was the game your grandmother probably taught you growing up. It also has the game that people know from Windows machines-- Freecell. Although this version is much nicer. I haven't had any problems running this on a relatively modern machine (PII 500mhz) and the game is a breeze to navigate. Other games have more solitaire card games, but the designers of this (eric?) seemed to have carefully picked out the 23 most fun solitaire card games. The games run from delicious, mind-bending strategy-over-luck games to very simple, yet interesting, games that could be taught to kids.
