Great value good product June 2, 2007 R. Speizer (San Francisco, CA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
[..] Good points: Realtively easy to use, will take a few hours of practice. I was doing stuff within minutes. VERY feature rich. Good manual (190+ pages PDF you can print) Good tutorial Good on-line help. You can import/create/save your own objects(must be in BMP format) It is FUN. Kids will love it and learn a lot. Has a rendering engine so you can produce "photos" of you designs. You can produce walk through tour "movies" of your design. Includes 3 "bonus" products: Deck designer, a home handyman program and a extensive training program on doing your own home wiring, incuding electrical and internet wiring. I really works as advertised. Even comes in a nice jewel case. Minuses (they are small) A bit slow, you will need a fairly quick processor, but not objectionable The 3D movement is a bit tricky, but it works ok with some practice. Some parts may not be intuitive, but are explained well in the manual 3D view can be a little rough. But is not objectionable. You must have the CD disk in your computer to run the program. This is NOT a professional architect's CAD/CAM. But has most of the best features. This is a Sierra product, but not supported by them any longer. The link in the program no longer works, but if you go to: [..] There is a FAQ there with technical support. For $10 you cannot go wrong. Highly recommended.
A must have if you move often! April 11, 2007 Gina Deriso (Edwards, CA United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This simple to use program has been a life saver many times, as being in the military, we move quite often. We have been able to get measurements for our new houses/apartments before moving in and then used this program to help place our furniature in it before we even got keys. The ability to move things around easily within the program allows the ability to "try on" the new arrangement, and then walk around in a 3-d view and see how it will look. I recommend this easy to use and cheap priced program to anyone who moves often.
disappointing CAD March 10, 2008 Winston T. Hooker Sr. (Cary, NC, USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was looking for a simple CAD program for a home based real estate business. I trained on two CAD programs costing over $3000 before I retired and did not want nor need that level of sophistication. I found this program to be relatively easy to learn but extraordinarily difficult to use and after over 2 hours of trying to draw a simple floor plan, I just decided that it was not worth the effort. Every new line produced two unwanted errors. The more I corrected, the worse it got. I love using CAD software but I consider this one a poor value although inexpensive to purchase. I'll just review my old manuals on AutoCad or TurboCad, both of which I own.
A little old, but easy to use. April 11, 2008 Jeff Thompson (Minneapolis, MN United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The good thing about Custom 3D Home is how easy it is to use. It's a little old & probably out of date, but it's much easier to build your own home designs than with most of the other software out there. It has it's problems--walls that should snap to the correct points often have to be tweaked to make a perfect corner in 3D, but thankfully once you get them right you can lock them in place. Of course furnishings are fairly limited, but you can get the idea. It works well enough, and is a fantastic value. I had no problems running it on my Windows XP machine. I'd recommend it for making quick & easy home designs and remodels. Measurements change as you expand or contract whatever you are working on, so everything can be designed exactly to specification. What have you got to lose? You barely need to read the manual to get going.
Pleasantly Surprised with this Diamond in the Rough June 27, 2008 Puddin' Tane (VA, USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't believe this was only $7.99. It is an amazing product. With it I was able to create a model of my house using measurements and then make another model to represent the modifications and add-on I want. It also allows you to decorate and furnish your model, and the walk-through video feature is awesome. My only complaints are that it isn't the easiest software to master, at times the graphics are a bit off, and that it is extremely difficult to get walls to match up exactly when creating a drawing from scratch. I also have yet to figure out how to effectively add a roof to my designs. However, I have never used any type of design software, I am in no way a computer savvy person, and I have never had any type of architectural or design experience, so the fact that I was able to turn out an accurate model at all is amazing! I find myself simply playing with the software now in my spare time, and selecting the homes in the design library to tweak, decorate and furnish- it is not unlike working with miniatures and doll houses- a passion of mine. All in all this product far exceeds it's low price tag, and I would buy it again even knowing it's few minor problems.
