Amazon.com Norton AntiVirus 2007 blocks viruses and spyware with advanced protection. It automatically detects and removes viruses, spyware, unwanted adware, and Internet worms, and provides protection updates. Your purchase provides a full year of protection with regular updates from Norton to combat the latest Internet threats. The purchase of this product contains a licence for one user. The 2007 version includes the new Security History feature to let you review detections and other actions taken by Norton AntiVirus. Also new for this release is Cookie Tracking Support, which gives you the ability to remove detected tracking cookies. The improved user interface in AntiVirus 2007 contains a convenient, centralized location where you can review detections, items repaired, and action required. View larger. | The new Security History is a convenient, centralized location where you can review detections and other actions taken by Norton AntiVirus. AntiVirus 2007 continues to offer Auto-Protect, Worm Blocking and more alerts. It also provides the option to allow Norton AntiVirus to automatically take action or be alerted prior to taking action. This "set-it-and-forget-it" solution lets you view alerts when you want to, so you can let Norton AntiVirus take care of the rest. At your convenience you can visit the Security History to view detections made and actions already taken by Norton AntiVirus. Tracking Cookie Support is also new for AntiVirus 2007. Upon scanning the system, tracking cookies will be detected and you will have the option to delete tracking cookies or ignore them. For some sites, you may want to allow cookies so that you don't need to sign into the site each time you visit it. But other cookies you may want to delete, such as those from third-party advertisers. Internet Worm Protection has been enhanced for 2007 so that it now protects against entire categories of spyware, viruses, worms and Trojan horse programs. Rather than block individually identified threats, this feature now matches individual but unknown threats to known worm and virus families and blocks them from installing on the system without requiring specific virus or worm signatures, giving you zero-hour protection. This technology helps protects against new spyware, viruses and worm threats before they are even created. Rootkit protection has been improved for AntiVirus 2007 to better guard against hidden threats such as rootkits, a type of virus that exhibits no discernible symptoms in order to evade detection. Previous versions of Norton AntiVirus already protect against user mode and application level rootkits. Leveraging VxMS technology acquired by Symantec through its merger with Veritas, Symantec has increased detection of emerging stealth threats by including patent-pending rootkit protection at the deepest level within the operating system. This protects against kernel mode rootkits that have dropped a driver onto the system. These threats may be invisible to Windows or other security software, but can be detected and removed by AntiVirus 2007. Norton AntiVirus protects your computer with three distinct types of scans. - The Preinstall Scan detects and cleans spyware, viruses and worms on an already infected system. The enhanced pre-install scan now detects and removes high-risk spyware before AntiVirus is even installed.
- QuickScan runs invisibly after you receive new virus definitions from Norton. QuickScan helps ensure that your computer is fully protected against even the newest threats. QuickScan has now expanded to search for other areas on the system such as "My Documents" and other areas of common infection.
- Full Scan is a full-system scan that now includes a foreground and background throttling mode. The background throttling mode performs the scan using less processing power so users can continue working on their system without major performance impacts.
The Norton Protection Center has been completely redesigned to communicate security status simply and efficiently. You can browse easily through each drop-down category to view the status of the category's security features. Overall computer status is always visible via the Norton Status icon on the taskbar or in the Windows system tray icon. The improved Auto Protect Blocking detects and blocks incoming viruses, spyware and unwanted adware threats as they attempt to install and execute on your system. Auto Protect Blocking now blocks both threats and high security risks from ever installing on the system. It is always running invisibly in the background to protect your computers. The easy "install and forget" feature keeps you from having to make constant security decisions to keep your computer safe and protected. Packer support has also been updated for 2007 to protect against virus hidden in compressed files or other masking technology. Many virus writers use packer tools to package up a virus such that the virus becomes difficult to detect. Sympack will now focus on unpacking the virus so that it can be detected.
Product Description Norton AntiVirus 2007 blocks viruses and spyware with advanced protection. It helps protect your entire computer by stopping viruses, worms, and spyware. Norton AntiVirus works in the background so you can surf the Internet, read the news, play games, and download software or music without disruption. It also scans and cleans all email and instant messenger attachments, preventing you from receiving threats, or spreading them to others. With set-it and forget-it functionality, Norton AntiVirus checks for updates continuously and automatically blocks new and emerging threats from getting on your system. In addition to protection updates, Norton AntiVirus provides new product features as available throughout your subscription period.

The worst software customer service experience I've had in a long time! November 14, 2006 Manny Hernandez (Palo Alto, CA) 77 out of 80 found this review helpful
After several attempts to get my upgrade from Norton AV 2006 to 2007, I called their support telephone. They walked me through the same steps I had followed (not their fault -they had to) and eventually passed along my issue to tech support, since it was a tech issue. After over 20 minutes of hold time (this was after 10 p.m. EST) I finally spoke with a rep and she walked me... through the same steps I had gone before (anyone taking notes about cases back there, to save the customer the hassle of doing the same things??) After the tech rep took me essentially to the same spot that the "regular" customer service agent did before, she told me in order to do the technical troubleshooting required, I'd have to pay for the rest of the technical call. I complained indicating that it was unacceptable to have to pay for this, considering my install of AV 2006 was working just fine (for a whole year) until I decided to upgrade to 2007 (instead of simply renewing my subscription, which would have cost the same). I indicated that if I had to pay, then I wanted my money back for the software... to which she said OK and she gave me a refund. In sum, with Norton Antivirus 2007 I couldn't get my previous subscription information to be recognized by them in any way and when things got too complicated for them, they argued that I had to pay for the rest of the support call. I am now officially switching to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0, which I just learned about here in Amazon.
An improved version of 2006.with all the pain and suffering carried over to 2007!! October 19, 2006 stewart L (flushing ,ny) 65 out of 85 found this review helpful
What a nightmare.Imagine everything that 2006 was and more bloat to spare.Just read the reviews for norton 2006.Symantec has learned nothing except, how to charge you for the privlege of getting their products to work. The protection may stop working at anytime, without warning.Of course norton will tell you everything is fine.I dare you norton to offer free live telephone support for the life,of your customers subscriptions, like leginamate decent companies offer.Just say no to this junkware. If your programs are working just renew your subscription.Thank you Stewart L.Update 10/24/06.You should know that webroot spysweeper is offering antivirus protection with their antispyware program.Of course symantec would seek to block a competitor.Symantec programs are buggy and unstable to begin with. And Webroot offers free live telephone support and really cares about its customers, unlike nortons get out your credit card support system!!! I am sure this program will work for some without a hitch. But just wait until you do have a problem!!!Many people raved about norton 2006,then reality set in.Well I hope this year is different.Thank You!Update 11/15/06.On my my 3 machines, the intrusion detection has reverted back to sept 22,2006.I wonder how many machines out there have old intrusion detections, running on their machines. This means you not protected against new viruses worms etc.Of course all is reported okey!!!Update 02/17/07.The intrusion error problem can be fixed with complete removel of this program and using their symart,or shall i say their partial removal tool!I am amazed at how many people get suckered into buying this program! It is terrible. And yes please continue to check your intrusion signatures. They may not be current on your computers! Update 02/19/07.My intrusions Detections failed to update.I was told by symantec to uninstall and reinstall again This means if i continue to use their program i have to reinstall monthly.!!!Updates itself great product Not!!
Have faith in Norton October 9, 2006 H. Bansal (Wilmington, DE) 34 out of 42 found this review helpful
I just got this last week because of the thirty Dollar rebate. Seems much better than its predecessor. It did ask me to un-install Zone alarm security suite, but then I was going to do that anyway. I am sure someone will say Norton is the worst of the lot, but then again, no anti-virus is perfect. I've had terrific luck with Norton over the past decade. So I'll stick with it. Use a combination of Norton AV & zone alarm firewall. Update 10/25/06: I've been using this product for about 3 weeks now & find it very reliable. People keep mentioning the fact that it incompatible with Zonealarm, which is INCORRECT. I had zonealarm security suite (which included an antivirus & an antispyware) installed before I installed Norton & I was asked to uninstall zonealarm completely. That makes perfect sense. Once I installed Norton Anti-virus I re-installed Zonealarm firewall with antispyware (antivirus not included) & it runs just fine. There are no conflicts at all. In addition to that I'd like to mention the fact that version 2007 is not just "an improved 2006 version" but its an all new program with much of the code written from ground up.
IT'S ALL IN THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE! December 15, 2006 Grumple Dumple 33 out of 45 found this review helpful
It was with a sense of abject dread (because of all the negative reviews) that I purchased this software a week or two ago from Amazon. I was depressed knowing I was spending my precious cash on what would so obviously prove to be an *inferior* product. *** My 2006 subscription was about to run out (which it did yesterday). The time had come to update to next year's version. Not being able to put it off any longer, I removed all traces of NAV 2006 from my system and rebooted. After rebooting, I inserted the NAV 2007 disk into my CD drive. I was prompted to install the software. No sooner did I begin the process when I ran into a snag. It indicated that I must remove ZoneAlarm. This filled me with despair because I remembered how everyone was reporting how it is incompatible with their ZoneAlarm firewall software. So, this means I won't be able to use a firewall with it? That ain't no way to live. I'll be vulnerable on the internet without a firewall! Well, having no other choice, I did as it said. I removed all ZoneAlarm components and rebooted the system. *** I began the process of installing NAV 2007 again. Lo and behold! The process began and ended without a hitch! *** But what about my ZoneAlarm? I decided to verify for myself whether or not ZA and NAV could coexist on my poor pitiably slow nearly 5 year old Dell Dimension desktop. I went to the ZoneAlarm website and downloaded their latest *free version* and installed it (I entered my license key later, as I own the Pro version). There quite simply was no problem encountered. *** I now have NAV 2007 and my ZoneAlarm Pro softwares getting along with each other swimmingly (for the moment anyway). *** It seems to me that there is no inherent conflict between the two. My guess is that many people simply are not realizing that they *must* first remove ZA/ZAP and all its components completely from their systems (make sure you reboot after removing) and *then* begin the process of installing NAV fresh. *** The installation of the 2007 version actually seemed a quicker and smoother process than the 2006 version had been the year before. (I remember having had some inital troubles with it.) *** I hope I have been able to allay some of the abject fear and dread of this product for people whose NAV subscriptions are about to run out. *** I cannot guarantee that *you* won't have any installation problems simply because everybody's pc system may have its own particular incompatibility issues with any given software. *** I have to give this product a glowing five stars based on my experience with it (so far anyway). If I happen to encounter any problems later regarding the product, I will update this review. *** If anyone (other than me) is able to verify that ZA and NAV can be used together without problems, please post your experiences in reviews here so that people are helped. I hope I have been helpful to you. *** Friday September 21, 2007: Just thought that I would check in with an updated report on the software's perfomance... What has it been now... 9 months or so?... Well, it is still the case that after all this time there still hasn't been so much as a single negative incident with the NAV's operation or performance on my machine. (My "very old" machine now.) I am sorry that the vast majority you have not been so lucky.
DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE ON YOUR PC~! April 27, 2007 Atul V. Mehta (Herndon, VA) 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
All Symantec wants you to do is bait you into installing their crappy software (which you won't EVER be able to uninstall). They will give you a 15-day trial, and then try to rip you off $40 bucks at the end of the trial period. It will shamelessly destroy your Windows Installer baseline package in the name of security while hideously removing the ability to install or uninstall any application including NAV. DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE unless you are looking forwarding to formatting your c:, got it?
