Amazon.com Product Description NetMAX FileServer is designed to simplify complex network administration tasks. The browser-based interface enables users to run Linux without previous Unix experience. It installs in as little as 15 minutes. NetMAX FileServer includes and installs a Linux operating system based on the Red Hat distribution, the Samba and Netatalk file/print sharing software, and backup software. All of the services are preconfigured and integrated into the FileServer product. It provides software-only solutions for computers using Intel-based architecture, giving you the flexibility to choose or upgrade to the most appropriate type of hardware to run your server. All users on your network can share files and printers, regardless of which operating system they run. Total hardware costs are lowered because the same printer can be shared by multiple users. The NetMAX FileServer also provides backup services to Windows, Macintosh, and Unix clients. NetMAX FileServer provides a dedicated server for sharing files. Access is controlled at a single point. User file access is limited to a single machine. This increases security and ensures that you have access to the files you need when you need them. Multiple hard drives can be added to NetMAX FileServer to increase shared file space and allow you to use the built-in disk redundancy features. Disk redundancy, either through mirroring or software RAID 5, ensures that a single hard disk failure will not cause you to lose any of your data. NetMAX FileServer provides the ability to perform full backups (save everything) or differential backups (save changes only). NetMAX FileServer can back up data stored locally as well as data stored on the clients on your network. The backups can be done immediately or scheduled to occur sometime in the future. You can maximize your network resources by backing up your clients when network usage is low. Data saved to a backup tape can be restored to the NetMAX FileServer or any client computer on your network, providing you with the greatest flexibility in data recovery. Experienced Linux users can always access the command line. The command line option allows you to add new software and applications to your system.

Cheap, easy networking for small business February 12, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This product has got to be one of the best for small business' who need a server class network, but don't have the money to spring for Novell or Microsoft's latest price for licensing. Netmax has made the intricacies of Linux disappear, and made setting up a basic file/print/web server easy for anyone. The web based interface is easy to use and learn, and the Netmax handbook walks you through every step (hint: do the remote install method, trust me things go much smoother). Will work with Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME and can be configured with other products from netmax to provide things like firewalls, tape backups, etc. Runs on the RedHat Linux platform so there are any number of upgrades you can load on it if you are a Linux techno, but even if you're not, you get a really, really, really stable server that your office will benefit from in many different ways. I can't say how happy I was to find this product, it saved me over $3,000 right off the bat, and the savings keep showing up. I tip my hat to netmax for living up to their claim that you can have the server up and running in 15 minutes.
