Slim Fast Low Carb compared to ZOIC Nutrition Drink December 5, 2007 Michael - 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
~ Here is a comparative of the Nutrition Facts showing ZOIC first on the left and Slim Fast Low Carb second on the right: Calories: 110 - 190 Calories from Fat: 10 - 80 Saturated Fat: 0.5g - 1.5g Trans Fat: 0g - 0g Cholesterol: 5mg - 15mg Sodium: 230mg - 260mg Potassium: 230mg - 550mg Total Carbohydrate: 5g - 6g Dietary Fiber: 3g - 4g Sugars: 1g - 1g "Net Carbs:" 2g - 2g Protein: 21g - 20g The vitamins/minerals are somewhat similar in these two drinks and can be found on the Nutrition Facts on the cans. The biggest difference is that Slim Fast Low Carb has about 73% more calories and 70 more Fat calories per drink. The taste, which I was concerned about when I order my first case of 24 drinks, is similar with the main difference that the Slim Fast Low Carb has a smoother, creamier texture. I experimented with adding about 80 calories of cream to a ZOIC drink and it definitely acquired a smoother, creamier texture. The overall taste of both drinks, in my opinion, is a good taste; but not a great taste. I would give these products a 4.5 rating if I could. The Slim Fast Low Carb drink with its extra 70 more calories from Fat seems to satisfy my hunger perhaps 30 minutes longer than the ZOIC drink (without any cream added). ZOIC's package states "meal complement & snack replacement" not a meal replacement; in other words, it seems logical that one would add a small portion of other healthful food to make it a meal. Both drinks refrain from adding any sugar or sugar alcohols (make sure you are comparing Slim Fast "Low Carb" and not other Slim Fast drinks which do have sugar added). Both drinks are free from Trans Fat. I like to use both drinks to give me variety in taste and calories. The ZOIC drink at only 110 calories is a good choice when I want less calories and less fat calories; perhaps, when a planned meal time has to be pushed back in time by a couple of hours. If I need something to skip a meal, then I will usually choose Slim Fast Low Carb. Both of these "Low Carb" drinks are good to have on hand in the refrigerator, so you can choose 110 or 190 calories versus some other super-sized 500 plus calorie item that may be in the refrigerator too. ~
I have found a way to make these taste better! May 2, 2008 Nanciejeanne (Western PA USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I liked these because the carbs are so low. I sometimes overindulge over the holidays or vacations and a low carb few weeks can get me back on track fast! However, these taste funny to me. They have an odd smell and aftertaste. I even tried freezing them. Still blech. I bought a pack of 24 of these, so I had to figure out something! SO I tried adding a pinch of salt, about 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, and nearly a tsp. of vanilla to a can. It is actually pretty good! First, freeze the can until solid. Open the can with a can opener from the bottom and dump it in a big measuring cup. Then smoosh it in with a blender until it is like a Frosty from Wendy's. (You may have to microwave it for a minute or two to make it soft enough to blend.) Then add the salt, vanilla, and cinnamon. The vanilla helps mask the aftertaste, while the cinnamon helps with the smell (but doesn't add carbs.) Akins people, you could even add a little heavy cream for texture. South Beach? Maybe skim milk. Next, I am trying some mint oil instead of vanilla/cinnamon (after I buy some!) as this seems like it would also work. Mint chocolate milkshake? that sounds good on a diet! I eat it with a spoon. I still can't eat the whole can at a time, but it is good when you are craving something sweet (besides sugar free jello!) I hope this recipe helps some of you who may not like the taste of these!
Great taste! September 27, 2007 Kay Hayes (San Jose, CA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This shake tastes better than any other low carb shake I have tried; it's smooth and creamy and sweet. I've tried Atkins (expensive and not very sweet) and ESA shakes (thin and not very sweet) and I prefer this product. Unfortunately, Amazon is the ONLY place I can find these so when they run out I'm screwed. I don't understand why this product is so hard to find especially since it is infinately better than it's competition.
Awesome if you can actually get it May 7, 2007 Jocelyn (Fort Myers, FL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love this product and have it on auto-ship from Amazon. However, I've received only one shipment of this product, ever. Amazon has cancelled EVERY SINGLE ORDER due to product shortage. So, I love the product but hate the fact that Amazon can never seem to get it to me.
I'm type 2. May 14, 2008 Bign2reading (St. Louis Mo) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a type 2 diabetic and wanted to something easy I could have as a snack or for lunch. I found that I was stressing so much over what I was going to have for lunch that would fit into my new life style change, I was getting overly hungry and then get a blood sugar spike from not eating. I tried the Atkins shakes, and they weren't taht great, but did the trick. But the sugar alcohols gave me gas. I heard about the low car slim fast but couldn't find them. Finally I found them at the Navy Exchange, and I love them.
