Amazon.com Product Description Forget the gimmicks and build a powerful physique with this Everlast multifunction chinning bar--one of the tried-and-true cornerstones of fitness. A chinning bar uses your body's own resistance to create maximum impact where it counts most, such as the pecs, biceps, abs, and obliques. The multifunction bar sets up pretty much anywhere, including in a doorway, against a wall, or on the ground. When installed in the doorway, the chinning bar lets you perform pull-ups and chin-ups, so you can create a strong back and muscular biceps in no time. When on the ground, the bar's comfort grips make pushups more effective than ever, helping you build a strong, defined chest and sculpted triceps. Finally, you can rest the bar against a wall, where it holds your feet for sit-ups and other ab work. And best of all for people who want a versatile workout, the bar offers multiple grip positions that allow you to work muscles from several different angles. A great foundation for any training regimen, the Everlast multifunction chinning bar adjusts to fit doorways up to 32 inches across. Are you kidding me? October 8, 2005 D. Ong (California) 70 out of 91 found this review helpful
The item came with the wrong screws and nuts. I had to wait for the correct ones but they never did send me the right ones. Right now I had to find the right screws because if you follow the instructions, the screws and nuts that connect the bars are oddly loose. What a piece of crap.
Everlast? Probably won't be ever lasting. November 10, 2005 Antonio Fernandez (Westfield, NJ) 63 out of 69 found this review helpful
CONS: 1. Incorrect hardware: Like other reviewers, the nuts and bolts do not seem to be the best. 2. Harms surface. One side that holds on to other side of the wall has a very abrasive surface which will mar any paint/finish. This material was probably chosen to prevent slippage, however rubber might've worked as well. PROS: 1. Cheaper than others. CONCLUSION: For the price it's okay, but I don't think it's going to last 2+ years of daily use. Very annoying was the hardware provided which doesn't seem to match the description in the user manual.
Not for six-inch interior framing March 13, 2006 R. Dale 29 out of 32 found this review helpful
This seems to be a fine product. However, our house was built with six inch studs (instead of the usual four inch studs). This means the door frames are wider, and this product does not work with these dimensions.
Be careful! October 23, 2006 M. Pregmon 25 out of 26 found this review helpful
I used this product successfully as a chin-up bar (palms facing me). When I turned my grip away to do pull-ups, the bar slipped while I was at the top of my pull. I fell and got a few bumps and bruises. This happened twice (shame on me). I did put some cushioning material on the bar that goes over the frame so as to protect the wall from damage. Be careful how you use it. I have decided not to use mine anymore until I find a way to attach it more securely.
Perfectly functioning pull-up bar June 24, 2007 John Cardwell 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I've had my Everlast pull-up bar for over a month now. In short, coming from someone who's been doing pull-up workouts routinely for the last 3 years, its everything it is supposed to be. A great product, as advertized. My pull-up bar shipped promptly and was packed in an additional external box, thereby protecting the actual product box as well as keeping the object of my purchase 'private'. The pieces were all present and in new condition, as well as all of the required nuts and screws. Contrary to what some reviewers have reported, ALL of the nuts and screws fit perfectly. Some of the screws had a unique, rubber coating on the inside of the nut - this allows for a much tighter, more secure connection thus increasing the longevity of the device. The instructions (as well as the quantity) clearly indicate where those special nuts are to be used. It fits my door-frame perfectly; the inner space between my door-frame measures 30 inches. So I guess from outer-edge to outer-edge that makes my door-frame about 34 inches. The instructions were very, very clear and complete assembly took me about 10-15 minutes. The instructions say that the device holds up to 300 lbs. Through the use of a weight-vest I've tested it to 200 lbs without any problem or anything to make me think that the device couldn't withstand at least another 50 lbs. The instructions include a toll-free number for you to call and, if need be, request a replacement set of nuts and screws, FREE of charge. That's nice. Additionally, there's a 1 year product warranty (from the date of purchase, so keep that receipt) for repairs or replacement, free of charge, in the event of a defect in materials or workmanship. I have not attempted to use it for sit-ups or pushups - so I can't attest to its functionality in those uses, however for pull-ups/chin-ups it is more than adequate and I can see this device lasting for well over a year; longer if it doesn't get thrown around, played on, or otherwise abused/misused. Fantastic product. It is a bargain. I just bought a second one for my friend right before starting this review. :) Thank you Everlast & Amazon. If I could recommend a pull-up workout routine to you, it would be the "Armstrong Pullup Program". (Type that into google, the program is free :)) It took me from 12 pullups to 21 in just under 2 months. I found that taking 3-4 days rest period was better for me than just the 2 days in a weekend.
