Works great for what it is. March 23, 2006 C. H. 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This mount works great for what it is. Please be aware that for $70 you are not going to get super strength or sealed ball bearings. However it hangs my 100lb heavy bag and tolerates my punching and kicking just fine, and when I need the space it swings the bag out of the way just as advertised. Is a good product at a good price. Mounting: I would have to seriously question the intelegence of someone that would try to mount this straight to a sheetrock wall. To stand up to a swinging 100lb bag is going to require some re-enforcement. Get a four foot 2x10 from your local lumber store and cut two 20 inch long pieces. Position the supports so that the TKO (top and bottom) brackets will be centered on the wood. This means the outside holes will line up verticly between the screws that mount the wood to the wall. Mount these supports to the wall studs with four 3/8" x 4" lag screws and washers per board. You should have about 2" of wood extended beyond the wall studs and screws for strength. Mount the TKO with 3/8" x 4" lag screws in the outside holes and 3/8" x 2" lag screws (and washers) in the inside holes. You will want to pre-drill all these holes so you are not splitting the wood. This is how I did it, and my TKO mount does NOT flex at all.
Nothing like it in this price range January 31, 2006 Joseph T. Goodman II 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have been looking for a convienient way to hang my 100lb heavy bag. This mount is very sturdy, I used concrete anchors and hung it on my basement wall. I would bet that it could hold well over 100lbs. I think that limitation is based on hanging it on normal 2x4 wall studs. Overall great product, but caution it doesn't come with bolts/screws to hang it, you have to visit your local hardware store for that stuff. Then when your all done hitting the bag you can just swing it out of the way.
My brand new Gym is ruined. February 6, 2006 Rafael Garrido (Bristol, CT) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this as an alternative to hanging my bag off of the ceiling. The bracket is nice and all, but one defect. It seems like most of the leverage happens on the inner screws (right next to the vertial post). These screws mount on nothing but sheetrock. The outer holes are the ones that are 16 inches on center, and are desgined to be mounted on studs. Needless to say, afte 10 mins of beating the bag, the backet leaned forward and ripped the wall apart. The Mount holes that are next to the vertical post came off the wall. Only way I can think of fixing this, is by buying a metal plate (prob 1/4 " thick) and placing it between the bracket and the wall. Hopefully, this will stop the bracket from trying to pull away from the wall. TKO should try to make the horizontal braces that hold the bracket to the wall, of thicker material to prevent the bracket from leaning forward. PS: I only used a 65lb bag. This bracket claims to hold a 100lb bag. I am glad I didnt mount anythign that heavy :) alos, no hardware included. The bolts are only $.30 a piece. TKO should have included 4 - 2 1/2 or 3" bolts for the outter holes on the bracket.
Not that impressed.. June 27, 2007 Christopher R. Bell (Clifton, VA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I followed the advice of another buyer on here, getting the extra wood for support, and using the 2" and 4" lag screws to secure the bracket/wood to the wall studs. It took considerably longer than I expected, getting the alignment right, etc. Once finished mounting it, it seemed pretty sturdy/secure. I used a 70 lb bag, and noticed minimal movement during the first 5 minutes of my first workout. I stopped to check and make sure it wasn't gradually coming loose (pulling on it with my hands), and everything still seemed fine. At that point, I upped the tempo a little bit and the bag began swinging a bit more. Within 2-3 minutes, itt came completely off the wall (boards, screws, bracket and all)!
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS THING! December 26, 2006 A. Kempken 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ive never done a review before because I have never been so disgusted with a product. Ive had mine a few weeks. Used it twice a week.. which equals roughly 10 uses so far. Well, just now the little knob that gets screwed in to hoold the arm in place to prevent it from swinging BROKE.. cracked right in half as I was turning it with my fingers. I didnt even put any weight into it!! Last week the nut that holds the eye hook and entire weight of the heavy bag fell off sending my bag crashing to the ground. I dont know why they wouldnt put something more permanent up there instead of a 2 cent nut. The design is terrible. Rather than have the supports and screw holes run the length of the wall studs they have then run so you mount two in the studs two in the drywall.. unless of course you do the wood mount like another user suggested ( which is what I did ). TKO just lost me. I will NEVER buy ANYTHING from them again. Seventy dollars for this CHinese made garbage. Im sure the welds will be the next thing to go. Buyer beware
