Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

These are top-of-the-line leather and neoprene grappling shin instep pads. Used for grappling, MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing. They are NOT intended for beginners or casual students. They are serious gear if you don't want to mess with the cheap stuff and want something that's going to hold up to STRENEOUS workouts.

There is a key difference between these pads and others: no straps on the back of your leg.

They have a high quality leather front with extremely high density foam padding. That's on top of a fully enclosed neoprene "sock" for your calf and an extra elastic strap under your instep (so they don't ride up your leg). Not super easy to get on and off, but very comfortable when you're using them.

Because the neoprene encloses your entire calf, they don't slip around when your fighting takes you to the ground. However, with no leg straps, nothing is cutting into the back of your calf. A VERY welcome change from the pads with straps.

Also, because the padding on the front is so dense, these are VERY popular with anyone doing Muay Thai or kick boxing. For most other "stand-up" arts (where you rarely go to the ground for any length of time), these are overkill and, honestly, you can find cheaper pads that would work just as well.

These have a "traditional" Muay Thai lace/cord tie around the top of the calf. Used to help keep the pads secure - though we find the laces aren't really needed. You can obviously keep them tucked in (or cut them off like we do for grappling).

If you're looking at pair of pads (whether you get them from us or not) make sure you can see the back of the pads. If they don't tell you different, the pads are using straps to hold the shin pad to your leg ? and they are NOT the same thing.

These are truly some of the finest pads on the market and, if you're a serious martial artist, they are worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent shin guards   August 10, 2008
David Emerson (ATL)
A little hard to get in and out of, but they stay in place wonderfully.

The back where they tie together is starting to tear at the seam after a few months of use, but I don't think they will fall apart any time soon.

Great value for the price.

5 out of 5 stars Very light weight   July 8, 2008

I couldn't agree more with the rest of them. It's very comfortable and light weight. You won't be disappointed as it's really a top quality.

5 out of 5 stars Unexpected   March 29, 2008

A bit difficult to put on and take off, but that's the beauty of it, it does'nt move from where you place it. You can kick the wall and you barely feel it. Also try to check out there other items, really good quality.

5 out of 5 stars Seem to work pretty well, satisfied with them   February 15, 2008

They're pretty comfortable, and fit very snug. I've been doing a lot of kicks to a heavy bag, and the difference with and without these is obvious. I will agree with the other person who wrote a review who said they aren't the easiest thing to take off. They go on really easy though. I think it's a combination of sweat plus being out of breath and sore after a work out that makes taking them off a lot harder than getting them on. However, I can't imagine that other products which fit as snugly would be able to come off any easier.

Bottom line is I'd recommend these. Good value, and it saves your shins.

5 out of 5 stars Shin & Instep Pads   December 24, 2007

These pads are amazing. I was very pleases when i received them in the mail. The material is very comfortable, Doesn't cause skin irritation on me and it doesn't hinder my movement in any way. Although it is somewhat set like a mold on the shin it is still very comfortable.
The only down side is that i was mislead about them being easy to slip in and out of. Putting them on Is very easy and the drawstrings are actually quite useful, but they do not come off easily or quickly. I am pleased with the seller and the product and i would advise MMA students these. I myself do Muay Thai and am very happy with them.
