Extremely pleased with MP610 November 4, 2007 George Carte (Palmer, Alaska USA) 107 out of 108 found this review helpful
I have used my MP610 for only one month, but am extremely pleased. I didn't time it, but the "Fast" mode is very fast and better than draft quality for documents. Color does suffer in "Fast" mode. I had banding in a solid black field and colors weren't as true to original. But in 'standard' mode I detected no obvious faults. The 'High' mode with photo paper has outstanding color and detail to my layman eyes. I've printed heavy card stock (45#) with no problem. I dearly love the Duplex feature. I had paper feed problems with my previous HP printer, but this internal Duplex mechanism is much more than I expected at this price. The description and pictures of the product did not addequately show the paper feed options. There is a straight through feed from a raised paper holder in the rear requiring a height clearence of more than 7 inches over the height of the printer. The feed tray also leans slightly back requiring about 4 more inches clearance behind the machine. Also to my surprise there is a paper feed cassette in the bottom of the printer. It pulls out forward to load and then is reinserted. It can hold multiple sized paper, and presents a 'U' shaped feed path. I've yet to use it. The 610 functions well as a color copy machine. I've used the scanner once to scan a company's gold emblem to use on 'home made' business cards and found the quality more than adequate in color and detail. I have NO complaints, yet.
Great Printer at a Great Price November 22, 2007 Dr. Howard B. Bandy 71 out of 73 found this review helpful
This was purchased as a replacement for a worn out all-in-one printer from a different manufacturer. It is used primarily as a text and graphics printer and photocopier. The quality of printed materials, in both black and in color, is excellent. Copy quality is also excellent. The Canon uses five ink cartridges -- CYMK for color work, a separate black for black-only work. I've been in the computer industry for fifty years and have owned and used many different printers. I highly recommend this printer.
awesome printer January 27, 2008 imsocrazy (vass) 48 out of 52 found this review helpful
I've owned just about every brand of printer made. I had never owned a Canon however and when my last printer died a slow painful death (a Dell), I faithfully read all the reviews (thank god for people that actually write these so the rest of us know what to buy) and ended up with this printer. It is absolutely the most fantastic printer ever. It's pretty quiet, is sooooo user friendly, quality is just fantastic and operation in all aspects is a dream. I just wish I'd found thisi one sooner. I love it.
What You'd Expect from Canon December 29, 2007 AZ Skywalker (Chandler, AZ USA) 46 out of 49 found this review helpful
This printer is my fourth Canon, but my first all-in-one. Canon builds good printers that work, and this one fits that description, but it is not a step forward over the i860 it replaced. In fact, the print quality of the i860 is quite a bit better. I do think that complaints about its size are a bit unfair. It is larger in size than some other printers that do the same things, but it fits fine on my printer stand. Set-up was easy, and I had it up and running within 30 minutes after getting it unpacked, a daunting task in itself. Overall, I'd say text printing is very good, copys are good, but scans are only fair, and photos are somewhere in between. The card reader works just like a card reader. If you can buy this printer for around $150, I think you'll be happy with it, but you might want to find somewhere that you can actually see it in action before buying it. It does all the things it's advertised to do, it's just that there really isn't a wow factor to any of them. Perhaps that's fine for everyday home office use, but if your more of a photo or graphics hobbiest, you probably should look at other models, including those in Canon's own lineup.
It's a Lemon: Machine Failed to Work Properly October 16, 2007 Elijah (Hawaii) 29 out of 57 found this review helpful
IT WAS A LEMON. I bought the Canon Pixma MP610 based on the positive reviews I read. It had all the features I wanted. It arrived on Sept 14 and for the first three weeks it worked fine. I only used it for printing and copying documents but I did not use it heavily. In the fourth week I started to get an LCD message that the printer head was not installed and/or it was the wrong printer head. Mind you I had not touched these things since the installation. These messages are in the book so canon is aware that things happen. I checked the book and called canon and got the same advice. Remove the printer head and put it back in. This meant removing the ink cartridges as well. The machine worked OK for about a day, and then the messages returned. I must have reinstalled the printer head 12 times. Then I got a message of printer error which the booklet advised me to turn the power off and pull the plug out. I did this and got the machine to work once, but then the message returned and I could do nothing. I tried to call canon again but the time difference worked against me. So I called Amazon and returned the machine as defective. When I did get through to canon to tell them the problems they didn't seem to care much. I OBVIOUSLY DO NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASE OF THIS MACHINE.
