Closet Kit Review---- January 19, 2008 Kosta Vangeloff (Alabama) 31 out of 35 found this review helpful
Installation Basic installation for those that are handy. I recommend a cordless power drill with bits, leveler, and stud finder. Use pencil to lightly mark studs. Once you install the top horizontal bracket into the studs with provided screws the rest is pretty darn easy. I love the functionality and simplicity of this closet. There are several accessory pieces available. If installed correctly in studs, this closet in VERY sturdy and will be able to hold all your clothes without any malfunction. I installed one kit in my closet, the wifes closet, wifes spare room closets, and also bought just the vertical pieces and shelves for the closet. Also used one shelf and short brackets with hanger pole and installed above the large folding table in laundry room so my wife can hang up the clothes/sweaters to either air dry (delicates) or to be hung after being pressed. Its so simple....i love it!
Decent kit but not as good as the equivalent closetmaid February 22, 2008 Comp Expert (USA) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I bought the equivalent closetmaid up to 8 foot adjustable system a few weeks earlier and installed that in one room and just recently purchased this rubbermaid system (couldn't pass up the super low price) so can make a few honest comparisons: - closetmaid comes with a lot more parts. There are several more linear feet of shelving included and a boatload more of brackets. I ended up having to go to the local store to buy a few extra feet of shelving and brackets to make the rubbermaid set as complete. - closetmaid uses a plastic nonadjustable length hangar bar. This means you have to cut to length (easy, due to its plastic construction). But the plastic bar doesn't look as stylish or robust as the rubbermaid's metal bar ,which is adjustable so doesn't need cutting. - closetmaid's "standards" -- the framing structure -- is longer by about a foot than than rubbermaid. This means you can have things hanging down lower or higher since there's more height available. I had to purchase extra standards to complete my closet for the rubbermaid while I had no issue with this factor with the closetmaid. The shelving itself look about the same between the two systems. Rubbermaid claims you don't need to cut the shelves but you'll want to do this in many cases. They are easy to cut with a metal blade on a small jigsaw. The closetmaid includes endcaps for the bare metal which is a nice touch. No such luck with the rubbermaid. Overall installation with both systems is relatively easy. No rocket science knowledge involved. Just have a drill with the proper bits (drill bits and Phillips). The two systems, though different, appear compatible as I was able to fit in the brackets from the closetmaid to the rubbermaid system perfectly. I wasn't too disappointed with the lack of parts for the rubbermaid since I bought it at amazon for $71 shipped, which was a great price. I paid about $50 more for the closetmaid at a non-sale price at a major home improvement chain store. Still, I ended up paying another $40 for the extra shelving and parts (bought at local home improvement store so it was expensive) to complete my closet for the Rubbermaid system so I eventually came out about even. Be warned if you're paying a higher price on the rubbermaid system as this set does not command a higher price.
A world of difference! January 19, 2008 Bob Sacamano (Atlanta, GA United States) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I finally got around to replacing our stock closet with two shelves and a wooden pole that sagged and man, what a difference. Installation was fairly easy and I agree completely with the first reviewer. If you can hit the studs with the top piece that anchors the whole system, these will last forever. But, using the sheetrock mounts that are provided are adequate as well.
a must-buy for organization February 5, 2008 totalpkg (Flint, MI) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I'd purchased the deluxe (titanium) version of this system for my son's closet and was very pleased with the cost, look, and ease of installation. When this was offered in white, I bought one for each of my daughter's closets - without hesitation. This closet system is very: (a) sturdy (we're all clothes horses - LOTS of weight on the rods), (b) functional (you can easily change shelving units/rods/etc., though we haven't after finding the pattern that works), (c) attractive (your wardrobe simply LOOKS better when it's organized), and (d) inexpensive (I've bought from other manufacturers in the past, and this EASILY surpasses all in most ways - still like the wood, ha).. I'd recommend purchase of this system to anyone who inquires.
Well designed to configure and reconfigure. March 3, 2008 Robert of Niagara (Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada) 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
Easy install. Note ...depth of shelves. Note the plastic wall plugs. When 'properly' (like a puzzle) squeezed to get them through the wall ..approx 3/8". I used a 1/4' bit and pushed in with a hammer instead of the included plastic pusher. An electric drill sure helps. Might be a little difficult for most women....but I know some are capable. Well made. It's a system. Very strong. I installed on a wall in my walk in. Just used one top header....but all the shelving.
