Product Description Top Handle Jigsaw With 6.5A, 4 Stage Orbital Action, 3 Way Blade Clamping System Firmly Grasps T-Shank Blades, Lever Activated Blade Change System With Ejector, Variable Speed Control Dial, Adjustable Dust Blower & Tool-Less Foot Adjustment.
Amazon.com When we first heard of barrel grip jig saws, we were pretty skeptical about the comfort and control they could offer, since we were so accustomed to the typical top-handle design. It really was a genuine surprise to feel the difference. The control is amazing, and cutting scrollwork is an absolute delight with this saw, something we can't honestly say about most top-handle models. With this design, it almost feels as if the cutter is an extension of your hand, smooth and responsive. The blade-change system on this Bosch is among the best we've seen: They weren't kidding when they named it the One Touch Blade Change. We like the speed range, from 500 all the way up to 2,800 strokes per minute to handle whatever you need to cut, and the cutting line actually stays clean because of the integrated, adjustable blower (which, we have to say, works better at higher speeds). With the barrel design, there's no trigger; instead, the speed is controlled by a dial on the rear of the tool body. It's a tad clumsy at first when you're used to trigger-controlled speed, but it's a learning curve, and it's worth it.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Amazing power and control December 28, 2004 Woodstud (Richardson, TX United States) 27 out of 30 found this review helpful
This is only my second jig saw, but coming from a black and decker jig saw I may be a little too easily impressed. But this jig saw is incredible. It has great control, and depending on the selected orbital action, it will either make very clean cuts and cut, in the words of another reviewer, like a beaver on steroids. With the anti-splinter insert, I got no tearout on birch plywood. I highly recommend this jig saw!
the best I've used. September 27, 2006 P. Cirincione (brooklyn, NY) 26 out of 26 found this review helpful
I hate jigsaws, they junp all over the place, the blades are a pain to change, and the cut is crappy. but this saw is amazing. I have owned this saw for two years now and it has completely changed my view of the jigsaw. first it is smooth, so smooth you could call it smoooove.....the variable speed is great and it doesn't jump around at all. second, the blade changes are so fast and ridiculously easy that I will never again use a dull blade or the wrong blade just because I'm in a hurry. third and most importantly, because it makes the most beautiful cut I have ever seen from a saw of this type. I cut a piece a plexiglass with it the otherday and it cut like butter and there was not one gouge in the cut surface and not one chip on the edge it was perfectly smooth and square and it was so easy to control I nearly cried. It seems like every time I put this saw away I forget a little just how nice it is and then rediscover it and marvel at it each time I take it out....it's that good. buy it!
Bosch 1591EVSK Gets it Right December 7, 2004 Craig Lauritzen 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I have used many different jig saws in the past, although all were top handle models. The barrel grip Bosch is the finest unit I have used. The control with the barrel grip is far superior to top handle models. Cutting is superb and intricate scrolling work is no problem for this saw. The tool-less blade change system is the best around, and in orbital mode this thing will rip through wood like a beaver on steroids! The only drawbacks are that with the slide switch instead of a trigger you give up a little on ease of speed control, although the rear speed control is easy to reach. Also the dust blower only works really well at higher speeds. If you need a jig saw then you need a Bosch, and if you want precise control then try the barrel grip as it is a truly outstanding tool.
Ooh, ooh, my first review March 27, 2005 Carlgo (Carmel Valley, CA) 22 out of 25 found this review helpful
Even though the older, very capable model is now available at discount, I splurged for the new 1591EVSK with the case. I opted for the Amazon credit card and free shipping for a total of $159. It is a replacement for a Sears unit that just turned 40. Smooth, quiet, precise; can't ask for more. The barrel grip is very good at controlling all that weight and power. The Bosch blades are really nice (I really wanted that 30-blade assortment that is not available at this time). Blade changes are easy and will make it more likely that users will switch to the proper blade during different phases of a project. The on-off switch is pretty clumsy and the fan action is a little weak at low speeds. Still, this is a great tool and is highly recommended.
Over Engineered? August 6, 2005 Keith E. Newell (Rock Falls, Illinois) 19 out of 26 found this review helpful
The two main reasons I ordered the Bosh 1591 EVSK Barrel Grip was the extra control the lower center of gravity on the barrel would provide for guiding accuracy in the cut and the precision carbide faced guides that would ensure a 90 degree angle to maximize speaker rim contact with baffle boards I'm cutting. Within three inches of the cut the left precision guide reciprocating pawl froze forcing the 20 tooth fine blade out and to the right of the cut spoiling the Baltic Birch 1/2 inch baffle board, melting and mangling the plastic splinter, guard and burning the blade. I called Bosh and they recommended sending it back to Amazon.com for exchange but I prefered a refund because the way it appears to me the precision guides shouldn't need to reciprocate with the pendulumn set to fine straight cut which is where I'd have for that fussy of a use. A far better approach would be fixed guides manually set so that the blade wouldn't veer and it'd be a much simpler design. I ended up using my ancient Sears Junk saw to salvage the project but I'm considering the Festool Trion Jig Saw that features their static presision guides.
