Amazon.com Review If you've ever wished for a smaller router that still had the power and accuracy of the standard models, Bosch made this for you. This little Colt is little only in size. It's 5.7 amp motor gives you all the power and speed of a big bruiser, with a variable speed of 16,000 to 35,000 rpm. Weighing in at just a hair over 3 pounds, it feels like a feather, so one-handed control is absolutely perfect. Bosch's soft grip design is intuitive, and whether your hands are big or small, it fits just right, giving you complete control. Don't worry about torque at startup, either, because the soft-start feature cushions it beautifully. The base has indentations that Bosch calls "finger support pockets," and they really do lend a great deal of control. The collect accepts standard -inch bits, so you're virtually unlimited in the bit department, with a surprising maximum diameter of 1-5/16 inches. There's a spindle lock on the front, so changing the bit out is a simple one-wrench operation. The speed dial is mounted on top of the tool body, and while some would prefer it closer to the grip, we don't see a problem, since you're gripping the tool with just one hand anyway. Depth adjustment is among the easiest we've seen on a router. Just turn the motor till the triangle and "unlocked" symbol align, lower the motor to desired position, turn the motor so the triangle lines up with the "locked" symbol and close the clamping lever. If fine adjustment is necessary, it's a breeze, courtesy of a wheel on the back of the base. Done. We can think of hundreds of uses for this little workhorse, but those who've previously been intimidated by routers will absolutely love it, because it performs like a full-size router, yet it's a fraction of the size and weight. It would be perfect for rounding-over deck planks and railings, hinge mortising, making decorative edges on hobby wood, and furniture, cutting slots, for use with a dovetail jig, making window cutouts, decorative inlays, trimming laminate and more. Pros, do-it-yourselfers and hobby woodworkers will all wonder how they got along without this little tool. -- Kris Jensen-Van Heste What's in the Box Router, straight edge guide, carrying case, fixed base, -inch self-releasing collet, drop-forged wrench

Wonderful Tool - Must Buy February 9, 2006 Alan Dale Daniel (St. George, UT, USA) 42 out of 44 found this review helpful
I have been using my new Colt router for a month now and it is a wonderful addition to my shop. I have a large bench mounted router, but this tool is now being used more often than the more powerful cousin. It is so easy to route edges, especailly for rounding over or using the flush cut router bit. Put the box or other item you want to rout on a pad made for holding the work and just cut away. The Colt is very easy to control. Making hinge morteses is a snap because the router doesn't grab or try to move off track. You can use the edge guide to help you make the mortese straight. All of the cutting so far has been in red oak and oak vineer plywood. It performs well in both. The bits are easy to change, and the depth is easy to set. A well thought out tool and well worth the price. I use it all the time in my shop now. I wouldn't be without it. AD2
Good tool May 29, 2007 D. Tran (Houston, Texas) 41 out of 41 found this review helpful
I already own three other "full size" routers so this little router is quite a pleasant surprise to use. It is light weight and very solid; hinge-mortising, edge-triming, and rounding-over are a breeze. I also bought the round subbase so that it can be used with my Porter-Cable templet guide set and it works out quite nicely. So why is only 3-stars? As mentioned by other reviewers, the "Shaft-Locking Button" does not hold and needs to be redesigned. It was the most frustrated thing that I ever dealed with; installing bit is no problem but removing bit was an entirely different story. The button just would not lock tight enough and kept slipping! After sore thumbs and bruised knuckles, I saw in the manual (page 7) suggesting to use a "thin" 10mm wrench as an alternative to the shaft locking button . Out of frustration I took one 10mm wrench from my inexpensive wrench set, grinded it a bit thinner so that it would fit on the flats of the spindle. Now I can easily install or remove bits using two wrenches. BOSCH either needs to redesign the shaft locking button or supply an additional $2.00 wrench!

Measuring for 90-degree accuracy April 20, 2006 R. Lock (Houston, TX) 24 out of 27 found this review helpful
I just purchased one of the routers. The first thing I did was insert a Centering Tool in the collet and after tightening up everything I placed a German made Precision Square against the collet to see if it was dead on 90 degree accurate and it wasn't. I measured from all sides to verify this and also used a CMT bit and another English precision square all with the same results. I took it back and got a different one and opened it at the store and did the same test and it was the same also and a third one. This router lacks the refinement and precision necessary for fine woodworking and production work. If you measure the base and motor you'll find that they are not perfectly 100 % perpendicular to one another. I'm not sure where Bosch has its tools made these days same for DeWalt and the rest but as long as these tests are not performed by users or reviewers the companies will continue to produce inaccurate tools that are nothing like the original tools when made in US or Germany. I gave it 2 starts for the looks.
Wait to the next version!!! January 14, 2007 Yaron Naor (Bat-Hefer Israel) 23 out of 26 found this review helpful
I have this Colt over a year - wonderful tool BUT 1. Shaft Locking button is poor and doesn't lock good 2. Bit is not strait! The fix base is moving after lock. I am sure that Bosch will fix these problems soon... SO BUY THE NEXT AND THE IMPROVED VERSION I will stay with main
