2 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE   June 24, 2008

I previously owned a HP500 all in one printer before choosing the Kodak Easyshare ESP3. One reason was because the ink was too expensive and the Kodak seemed like a bargain because of the cheaper ink it offered. The black cartridge will run you $9.99 and the color $14.99. I was paying around $65.00 prior on ink. Making the total cost for the printer and ink around $165.00. BUT WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU is that this printer will only print those superior pictures on Kodak paper. It has a built in scanner that scans the back of the photo paper and automatically sets the image quality. The photo paper will run you around $9.00 bucks for regular glossy (4x6 @ 100 sheets)or the premium quality runs around the same price but you only get 60 4x6 sheets. (premium is better as it is heavier paper and doesn't fold as badly as the regular ones) Forget about using cheaper or other brands of photo paper, Kodak makes it so that they come out horrible. NOT ONLY is that a way to corner the market and make up for the cheap cost of the ink, one very very bad con is that you can forget about using regular non-photo paper. For black and white documents it's acceptable but color pictures are horrible on regular paper. Again Kodak offers something called ULTIMATE PAPER that makes the color quality acceptable. I tried using three different types of paper and only the Kodak paper was acceptable and not really good crisp bright color quality. My HP 500 was way better. This printer works as if it's already built in to work on it's own accessories and nothing else. This printer does not let you control the quality at all. It's set to AUTO PAPER even though i'm using an ultra bright white non kodak brand it will not let you adjust the type of paper you are using. So if you think that this printer is a simple easier way to go...think twice about it. For me since I like to print color copies on non-photo paper way more than print pictures I pretty much hate it because i'm limited on only using the Kodak Photo paper which is more expensive than other brands. The machine IS loud and when the paper comes out is bends, curls, or folds because the ink dries slowly on the regular paper. So expect to pay alot more for the accessories that does not come with this product because it pretty much rules out trying to use cheaper other brands. A side note: I also hate the paper tray because it's all black and makes it hard to load and the flap that holds it in place is very flimsy as if it's going to break off.

3 out of 5 stars may print wonderfully, but not everything is included   April 24, 2008

I received my Kodak ESP3 printer a couple of days ago. My husband and I spent approximately a month reviewing other printers before finally making the decision to go with this Kodak. At the time of our purchase, it was only in stock for immediate shipping through Best Buy and Kodak online. Therefore, I am including information in this review based on information received at both of those websites, and not necessarily Amazon.

I highly recommend anyone that is planning on, or seriously considering, purchasing this printer to read the specifications carefully. The day after I received my printer, these specs were updated at both Kodak and Best Buy. However, previous to this time, the specs clearly stated the printer was Bluetooth. The specs also clearly indicated the printer did not require a USB cable. Both of these items are false. In fact, I could not change any settings, or completely install the printer without the USB AB cable. In addition, after purchasing Bluetooth adapters for our computer/laptop, I discovered that the printer, in fact, needs to have a Bluetooth adapter(purchased separately NOT included). The adapter is ONLY available at Kodak and retails for approximately $45. It apparently uses proprietary technology and is NOT sold anywhere else that I have found. The adapter has to be able to accept JPEG/EXIF file types. As far as I have been able to discern, this is not standard for a normal Bluetooth USB adapter.

Keeping the extra equipment in mind--the printer is advertised as a money saving printer. As far as paying a mere 10 cents/print(or less), this is true. However, the cost of purchasing the printer and all of its extraneous accessories, has begun to add up rather rapidly.

I was first interested in this printer because I had heard Kodak has wonderful print technology and this printer creates wonderful images. I also was keen on not spending 20+ cents/print at my local retailer, only to find the prints were utterly horrible. So, I purchased it with the intent of saving money, the convenience of not having to leave home to pick up/drop off prints, and the ability to control the printing and quality myself. I would recommend checking into other printers if one merely wants the ability to print and save some money doing so. There are so many items NOT included with this printer that it makes it more economical to check other manufacturers.

I would comment on the print quality, but so far, I still do not have the printer completely installed. I checked one print via USB AB and it seems to be a decent quality image. However, based on the lack of email response from Kodak regarding this issue, and the misleading information initially posted in their specifications, I will likely not buy another Kodak product. I would rather spend more money on the printer initially than have to run around trying to find/buy the additional components I need.

5 out of 5 stars Awsome prints   April 30, 2008

I had researched many different printers. I'm an avid scrapbooker and have gotten tired of only creating layouts with 4x6 photos but wanted something convient so I could print good quality photos. I had resigned myself to the fact that I was gonna have to pay big $$$ for a good printer and then much more $$$ later for all the ink. When I found this one offering cheapper prints than I would pay at the store I thought I'd give it a go, at the very least I could turn it into the desktop printer for my other computer if I didn't like it.
When I printed the first photo I was THRILLED! It makes super photos, expecially for scrapbooking. Prints very fast and the prints come out already dry. Kodak has really matched their competetors with this one.

I purchased this printer (not from amazon) three days ago. Like the other review said, it did not include compaitible bluetooth accesories. Nor would it work with the other bluetooth connection I had. However, that could be easily put aside. Another thing is the printer is extremely noisey. That could also be put aside. The thing that can not be put aside, and ultimately has resorted to me taking the printer back is that it NEVER WORKS! I'll try to print something and it will make this AWFUL noise and say paper jam. It did that the first time I started up the printer (when there was no paper even in it) and has done it every time since except on one occasion. The one time it printed something, the print was very nice. There is absolutely no paper jam and it still refuses to work. This is my second dissappointment with a kodak printer (the other being the All in One 5100).

4 out of 5 stars Great all-in-one for home use   August 10, 2008

I have had the printer for about 2.5 months now and haven't had any problems. Had it set up and working in a matter of minutes.
Some other reviewers seem unhappy about its lack of bluetooth or that it doesn't have a USB cable in the box. This didn't bother me because I wasn't expecting it to be bluetooth compatible, and I knew it didn't have the USB cable in the box.
Pros:
- Easy set up. Installed drivers from CD, plugged in USB cable, worked like a charm.
- Prints fast
- I love having scanning and copying capabilities built in. Have used both and it worked just fine.
- Inexpensive ink
Cons:
- Louder than most printers (I have seen other reviewers comment on this as well)
- The paper tray design is a little weird. The output paper almost lies on top of the input paper. Seems to work fine for smaller print jobs but my guess is that it wouldn't for larger print jobs.
- Copying/scanning must be done one page at a time. But this is typical of most home printers.
- Would be nice to have automatic duplex printing. But most home printers don't.
So if you're looking for a high end professional office printer for high volume copying, duplex printing, etc., then this probably isn't the printer for you. If you need a decent home printer/scanner/copier it works great.
