Product Description I always got so frustrated with the heat that would come off my notebook and how awkward it was to prop it up or position it just right. I would use a large book to set it on just to keep it from getting to hot. I purchased one of those wooden trays seen out there, after assembling it, I found it was not sturdy and it kept getting caught on my blanket and tipping over cause of its design with short legs and sharp edges. I got so frustrated, I decided to sit down and design a lap desk that would be light weight and durable enough to hold my notebook as well as keep it from overheating. So after a great deal of design work I created TheLapDesk.

Fairly fragile November 30, 2008 August Spillers It's ok, overprice for injection molded plastic. The vendor I used took almost 3 weeks to deliver it.
Perfect for my needs December 6, 2008 Diane Kistner (Tallahassee, Florida) I don't agree with the reviewer who says the Lap Desk is fragile. It is a bit flexible but sturdy, made of smoky black acrylic (such as some desk trays and organizers at office supply stores are made of). I thought the price was very reasonable, compared to other products made out of this type of acrylic. (Price acrylic products at office supply stores and you'll realize this desk, at least at the sale price I paid for it, is a very good value.) I like the desk's low profile and clean, uncluttered design. I was so infuriated with other lap desks that have "adjustible" (collapsible) legs and tray, which is why I bought this one after extensively researching what was available. The tilt, especially, is important for comfort and visibility, whether you're using it with a computer or to hold an open book. (That's a thought: I can also use this to hold a cook book in the kitchen.) I have a chronic pain/fatigue condition that sometimes renders me bed-ridden, so having the ability to work with ease in bed without having to deal with something having to be adjusted all the time is important. I also have "thunder thighs," so I appreciate the higher clearance of this desk as well as the ability of the sides to flex a bit (not needed with a sheet, but my thick comforter does require a slight flexing of the sides). This tray is probably wide enough for a larger laptop, but there will be no room for a mouse. My little Toshiba only takes up 3/4's of the surface, so there's a little room for a mouse--but I far prefer putting my mouse (Logitech nano laptop wireless) on my belly and setting the rockers of my mouse wheel for forward and back. This way, I can be "at my computer" for hours in comfort, hands resting on belly until I need to type, without accentuating pain. Then, to type, I just leave my mouse sitting on my belly and put my hands to the keyboard. Very comfortable. The only "negative" I have about this product is that, when I ordered it, the delivery window shown under my Amazon orders was more delayed than I had hoped. I did receive it five days before that window closed, however, and I received a prompt and courteous response from the merchant when I emailed a query. I would buy this again, and I may buy one for my DH for his birthday.
