Forget the Weather Channel!!! January 16, 2006 S. Milona 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
To start off, I moved to Buffalo, New York for college...little did I expect the weather channel to be wrong ALL the time!! This is the perfect solution to my problem! The thermometer works all the time (I have had mine for a month) and is always accurate! I check the weather channel frequently to compare...and mine is always right (I also checked the accuracy with an actual old school outdoor thermometer)! The only thing I would suggest is as it does...keep it out of direct sunlight and direct rain, otherwise it will mess up the sensor and the temperature. The indoor temperature is always accurate as well...I always thought my apartment was cooler then the thermostat said and now I have figured out that all of my windows actually let out the heat. It is just always better knowing the actual weather instead of guesstimates! Hope this helps! Edit 9/22/2007: Almost 2 years since I purchased the temperature station, and it still works! I saw that one buyer was disappointed with no atomic clock, but if they read the description they would have known that. To be honest, I am still as happy as ever with this product!
Super use of today's technology! April 5, 2006 J. Johnson (Indiana USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this on a whim and now I wouldn't do without it. This is a simple device with great utility. Mount the sensor under your deck or anywhere else it won't get rained on. Place the main unit in any handy place inside within 80 feet of the sensor. Then follow the easy set up directions and you've got instant access to both indoor and outdoor temps. The unit displays the time plus indoor and outdoor temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. There are only two buttons, each marked with multiple titles. You'll want to keep the manual handy to get the exact directions for resetting the unit or clock. It's not intuitive using the unit alone. Luckily the web address is printed on the unit and has a manual available to download. The LCD screen is easy to read, but there is no backlight on this model. La Crosse makes many models with more options, but you can't beat this unit's functionality for the price.
No atomic clock feature May 26, 2006 Toy Buyer 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is good for what it is - gives indoor/outdoor temperature readings & the time. I had incorrectly assumed that all La Crosse clocks have the atomic clock. But this one does not.
Quality Indoor / Outdoor Wireless Thermometer November 12, 2006 C. Wilkins (NJ, USA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you are looking to replace that old indoor / outdoor thermometer that uses a wired sensor dangling from your window then this is a great replacement. The outdoor sensor must be protected from the rain (moisture) as this will affect the reading. The sensor also needs to be located in a shaded area (Northern Exposure) to avoid Sun light from giving a false reading. To add flexibility to my sensor location and increase the radiated wireless signal to a circular pattern I mounted it on a piece of PVC pipe. Use a 1 1/2 inch piece of tube about 3 feet long and make a diagonal cut on one end so it will stick into the ground easier. Using the hardware and bracket provided fix the sensor to the pipe (only the one top screw is needed). To shield the sensor from rain use a (Poland Spring 16oz) plastic water bottle with the top cut off. If you mount the bracket flush with the top of the pipe the bottle will just cover the sensor. To stop condensation from building up inside the bottle, drill six holes up the side (vertical) and 4 just across the top edge. (Just under the bottom lip) Make the holes large enough to allow the moisture out but, small enough keep driving rain from trickling inside. The holes should be on the backside of the bottle away from the sensor. After a week of operation I found the temperature to be less then -2 degrees below what the local Weather Channel or radio was reporting. (So if the report was 68 the unit would read 67/66) Setup was easy; just add batteries to the sensor then to the unit and place them about 2 feet apart and wait ten mins while inside. The LCD on the inside unit will show a small radar antenna when it is searching for the sensor and calibrating itself. After that, set the clock and take the sensor outside and mount it in the bracket. Areas of concern will be brick or stone walls. The density of this material will diminish the receiving capabilities of the receiver. Try using the inside unit close at first then move it farther away if that is where you need it to be. Walls and metal will limit the distance so you will need to experiment to see how far away it can be in your location. Overall for the fact that it is just a thermometer it works well. Manual clock set but, for the low cost of the unit you shouldn't expect an atomic clock receiver. If you buy one to use as an indoor / outdoor thermometer you will not be disappointed.

I just received the La Crosse temperature station. I was shocked on the size. very small not to sure if I could read the numbers. Cheap plastic on the display model. I can't believe that this list for $36.95. By looking at the model I would say that a person spent at the MOST $5.00. I bought these all for gifts and will be returning all 4 of them. I have a different indoor outdoor wireless temperature station and love it! My display is 4 times bigger and the quality there's no comparison. I am just to embarrassed to give this as a gift. You need to pay attention to the dimension of this item.
