Handy lock that works well except in feezing weather November 30, 2005 D. Navarre (Bowling Green, Ohio USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I use these on my outdoor storage sheds and they work great since you don't have to carry keys. But they freeze up in winter weather and can't be opened. The only lock I find that works in winter weather are 'receiver locks" that are used lock a trailer hitch to a vehicle. (Sounds strange but they work). Just drop it down through your door latch with the rubber cap up. The rubber cap keeps moisture from getting in to the lock. The draw back is I have to switch back to using keys in the winter.
Master Lock 175D Outstanding January 15, 2006 Anthony D. Thompson 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is an outstanding lock. The combination is easy to set so you can hold one combination for several locks. It is also tough as nails and resists corrosion very well. Great buy.
Master Lock are very easy to compromise. Not a good locks at all. January 7, 2008 Coala Bear (Canada) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Check it out on youtube. Search for "Master Lock". You'll see a whole bunch of locks of the "Master Lock" brand, easily compromised, including this 175D one! Some of them a little easier, some of them a little harder. One thing is clear: you just can not trust locks of this brand and that's that. Well, it might be possible that there ARE some version of locks of this brand that are good, but seriously, when you start looking at these videos you'll see that it kind of locks like this whole brand of locks just plain sucks. I got started of my rant because yesterday I bought a cheaper version of this lock (630D), with 3 digits. It was wrapped in plastic so I couldn't play with it in the store. It only costed $7. I could open this lock in 20 seconds with no tools whatsoever. I pulled on the lock while rotating the digits. The digits just snapped into place, one by one. It's just too embarrassing to call this a lock, because it's just a plain joke. Cheap Chinese stuff? On the back of the package, it yacks about how it's made in China, but under strict specifications of the Master Lock company. It's ridiculously badly made. I'm very outraged, because I was going to use it on a school locker and could have lost all kinds of stuff.
i would not lock anything up with it May 21, 2007 Durant (Pittsburgh PA..) 2 out of 11 found this review helpful
it is way too easy to open WITHOUT the combination.
Good lock December 3, 2006 B. Lotze (Louisville, KY USA) Excellent, especially if you have contractors or other people going in and out for a period of time (chained gate). Once they're done, change the combination. It can freeze in winter, so you can either add a key lock for backup, or find a way to warm the lock up.
